Travis Head credits wife Jess Davies after century in World Test Cricket Championship final vs India

Star Aussie batsman Travis Head has credited his glamorous model wife for his incredible turnaround in form after a stunning century in the World Test Championship final on Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old beat the Indian bowlers around The Oval with his trademark reckless style, scoring an unbeaten 146 from just 156 bowls as he and Steve Smith (95*) led Australia to an impressive 3/327 on day one of the last.

It remains a stunning piece of form despite the South Australian often falling out of favor with selectors, leaving many fans and legends of the game baffled at his treatment.

It is now hard to imagine how Aussie Cricket’s top brass can even consider omitting the attacking southpaw any time soon.

And it might all be thanks to wife Jess Davies (maiden name), whom he married in April this year after getting engaged to the model in March 2021.

Speaking to reporters after his brilliant knock, Head reflected on how having a stable, happy life off the field with Jess and nine-month-old daughter Milla had translated into better results with bat in hand in the Test Arena .

“I’m also in a nice little period of my life off the pitch right now and it all comes out in clarity and consistency in a really enjoyable team to play for,” he said after the game.

Jess has worked with a number of modeling agencies and is now a regular on her famous husband’s Instagram as the couple travel the world. Not just for his cricket career. Their recent honeymoon has included glamorous locations such as Nice, Capri and Sorrento.

Their April wedding was a lavish affair in their native Adelaide, which was a who’s-who of Aussie cricket.

Aussie skipper Pat Cummins attended the festivities with wife Becky, as well as Tim and Bonnie Paine, Nathan Lyon and Emma McCarthy and many other cricket identities.

Davies wore a stunning Pallas Couture gown, with a plunging neckline and thigh split, while Head looked as handsome as ever in an MJ Bale tuxedo.

“Everything about this weekend was perfect, so much love. Bestie, I love you,” Head wrote in a sweet post about the day, while wife Jess also wrote how “special” the day was.

“Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life as your wife reminding you how amazing you are,” she said in a social media post about the big day in April.

“Nothing special but getting married to my best friend at our house, in front of our closest friends and family.”

It’s safe to say the engagement to Jess has had an immediate effect on Head’s Test career, especially his skyrocketing success rate which has doubled while his average has risen by nearly 20 runs per innings.

Despite Australia never winning a Test without Head since he made his debut in 2018, the selectors inexplicably decided to leave him out in the first Test of the recent India series.

After realizing their mistake and including him for the final three games of the series in March, Head promptly averaged over 47 with a 68 strike rate on very difficult pitches.

And here we are, Head possibly leading Australia to victory in a World Test Championship final.

Head came to the wicket with the side placed dangerously at 3-76 and hit his 50 from just 60 balls, meaning he had passed 40 in nine of his last 14 innings.

His century came off just 106 balls, and the way he did it should deter the Indian bowling attack.

He did it everywhere. In the air, on the ground. Through the covers, behind point. Crushed by midwicket and straight over the ground.

Aussie cricket fans should buy Head’s wife Jess a beer for the part Head said she played in his purple patch.

The pair met at Trinity College in Adelaide, but it took a while for the pair to realize they were meant to be.

For the sake of Australian cricket it’s great they realized it.

“We went to school together. We met at Trinity College and then we were separated for a few years, but we always kept in touch,” Head told the Soda Room podcast last year about how they got together.

“We started talking again about that first shield final, or maybe the second, and then I went to India the next day and then straight to England. And I flew her to England.

“It’s very funny, because I’ve also flown business with her. So I’ve set an early precedent, haven’t I. And she won’t mind if I say this. But yeah, it’s an expensive date… But it was definitely worth it.

‘Thanks mom and dad. The best thing to get out of school!’

One thing we know for sure: Head won’t take his foot off the pedal. It’s not reckless, it’s just the way

“I like to be positive about my way of scoring. I feel like I’m playing my best game that way – whether it’s three for 10 or three for 300,” he told reporters.

“I try not to be as aggressive as I am. It’s just how I see it. I don’t feel like I’m trying to push the boundaries or hold back.’

Day two of the World Test Championship finals will continue from 7.30pm AEST on Thursday night.
