Melbourne Demons have taken a major blow after Clayton Oliver was hospitalized on Wednesday.

According to 7NEWS, the Brownlow Medal contender is in hospital, on a drip and on a course of antibiotics, dealing with a nasty infected blister that has gotten worse in 24 hours.

Oliver has been hoping to return from a hamstring problem that has seen him miss Melbourne’s last two matches, and his trip to hospital has put his place in the team ahead of the King’s Birthday clash with Collingwood in question.

“The Demons had Oliver locked out for a return (match against Collingwood) due to a hamstring injury,” said Seven reporter Mitch Cleary.

“But he was absent from the club yesterday and missed a golf day with teammates (Wednesday).”

The Dees hope Oliver can recover quickly ahead of their blockbuster run against the Pies, who sit atop the AFL ladder while they are third.

The midfielder has been in spectacular form this season and is one of the main contenders to win the Brownlow, having finished joint fourth in 2022 and third the season before.
