“She has a lot of trust issues. She went through that divorce with Michael Ray and parts of it that she’s still dealing with and struggling with,” the outlet insider said, noting that it was “really hard for her.”

Riley confirmed their split in a statement to the outlet: “Yes. It didn’t go well. Carly and I have parted ways and I wish her only the best in her career and personal life.”

Adding that Carly’s music about her divorce from Michael “took its toll” on Riley.

Born in Taylor Mill, Kentucky, Carly became a household name in 2017 with her song Every Little Thing.

Her latest hits are about heartbreak and breakups – the songs I Hope You’re Happy Now, Next Girl and Never Wanted To Be That Girl.

She married Michael Ray on October 6, 2019 in Nashville on a ranch surrounded by 100 friends and family.

The lovebirds gushed about each other shortly after they got married in an interview with People.

“Knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that I haven’t settled for anything less than truly the person I think was made for me is something I’m thankful for,” Carly said after their wedding.

“No matter what, I’ve got her in my corner. Whatever happens, she’s got me in her corner. I tell her that you will never face anything alone. There will never be anything in life that you don’t look at and I’m standing by your side,” Michael said.

Carly filed for divorce in late June 2022, eight months after their wedding.

Her reps told People magazine at the time, “This was a tough decision. It wasn’t something she wanted to do. This was not a quarantine realization – it was a last resort.

In November 2020, Carly opened for People about why she thinks her marriage has failed.

The artist suggested it was a trust issue and that Michael couldn’t match her efforts: “I did everything I knew how to do. It takes two people to work on something. When you love someone, you trust them,” she said.

She said she “realized very quickly that we weren’t meant to be,” but doesn’t call it a mistake.

Despite her heartbreak, Carly said she still believes in love and hopes to marry her again one day.

‘I’m hopeful. I want someone. I desire marriage. I long for company. I long for a family. I long for all those things. I think it’s hard to have a divorce as part of your story. It’s a harsh reality,” she told People.

“It was hard for me to accept that and not be ashamed of it or feel like it defines me. But in reality I know I’m not. I’ve come to the point where I just accept that everyone has a journey, and this is mine — and the right person will be able to love me for it,” she said.
