Jordan Dowsett reveals his eye-watering salary working as an FIFO electrician

A FIFO employee who claims to earn in a day what most people earn in a week says his eye-watering salary is worth missing on weekends.

Jordan Dowsett, a former Love Island contestant, recently shared his daily routine as an electrician at a mine in central Queensland.

He gets up at 4 a.m. to work a 12-hour shift, still finding time to hit the gym and enjoy an impressive banquet of food three times a day.

The tradie admitted that his salary made up for it, despite having crippling FOMO (fear of missing out) while his friends enjoyed their weekend.

“If you’ve gotten the worst FOMO of everyone enjoying their weekend…but you remember paying for their entire week in one day,” he said.

The median salary for a FIFO electrician is $126,750 or $65 per hour, with entry-level positions starting at $107,965 per year, according to data from Talent.

The most experienced workers can earn up to $152,100 per year.

Viewers wondered if his salary was worth the early wake-ups and long hours.

‘Not worth it brother. It slowly kills you,” one viewer commented.

“The money is great, but money can’t replace time and memories,” wrote another.

A third shared, “Fomo is literally the reason I don’t want to join the mines.”

It comes after Mr. Doswett shared a TikTok detailing his daily routine on the site, including 4:30am wake-ups, gym sessions and group stretches.

Fans were in awe of the smorgasbord that the workers are treated to, including hot breakfasts, ice cream, curries, pasta, chips, fruit, sandwiches and pastries.

“Look at the options I get: fruit, yogurt, cereal, bread, muffins, you name it, hot food, porridge, it’s all there,” says the electrician.

He said that while he doesn’t use the “famous” coffee machine, it is “destroyed” by his fellow FIFO colleagues and he treats himself to a “cheeky” hot chocolate when he is “naughty.”

At 5 AM, Mr. Dowsett goes to the ‘crib’, where there are endless lunch and snack options for the workers to take to the mine.

“We’re going to pack our smoko and lunch for the day because once you get to the mine, there’s no way to get food,” he said.

“We pack it all morning and then we’re ready to go for the day.”

At 5:30 am, the electrician takes the bus to the location where everyone attends a meeting and does some morning exercises before starting work at 6:00 am.

“Lunch is a hit and what I packed today was a little salad and some fruit, or sometimes if there’s a healthy alternative, I’ll have chicken and rice or something,” he added.

“And then there’s a big smile on my face because it’s 6 p.m. It’s time to stop, the day is finally over.”

Dowsett will be back at camp and the gym at 6:30 p.m. for an hour-long training session.

‘I like the gym here because no one comes here, so I have the whole place to myself. I knock off a workout of about an hour, that gets me some food at 7:30 (when),” he said.

The Sparky showed the range of meals for dinner, including curry and rice, chips, corn, green vegetables, stew, chicken schnitzel and salads, as well as ice cream for dessert.

At 8 p.m., the tradie is in bed and half an hour later asleep ‘ready to repeat the day’.

The video of the FIFO electrician was viewed more than 333,700 times, and viewers were most impressed — and envious — of the food on offer.
