- Gracious act came after heartbreaking loss
A footy fan named Kenny has been given the best birthday present of his young life after Bulldogs winger Josh Addo-Carr gifted him the jersey straight off his back in emotional scenes last Saturday.
Despite Canterbury losing a one-point thriller to the Roosters, the fastest man in the NRL was only too happy to spend some time with a group of kids on the sidelines after the game on NSW’s central coast.
In a video posted to TikTok, Addo-Carr can be seen posing for a photo with Kenny before asking a man who appears to be related to the youngster, “Is it his birthday?”
The young fan couldn’t contain his emotions when his hero gave him the birthday gift that beat all birthday gifts last Saturday
Despite coming to the end of a very frustrating one-point loss to the Roosters just minutes earlier, Addo-Carr didn’t hesitate to take his jersey off when he learned that Kenny’s birthday was just a few days away.
When told that the big day is coming up that week, he doesn’t hesitate for a second before taking off his top as the other fans try to get his attention, including one who cheekily tells him, “It’s my birthday in 27 days!”
After getting some help from the man who filmed the video, the man known to footy fans as ‘The Fox’ draws the jersey as Kenny begins to shed a tear.
When Addo-Carr pulls him over the fence for a photo seconds later, he can’t contain his feelings and begins to cry before forcing a smile for the camera as his hero grins broadly and gives him a hug.
Viewers were moved by the images, leaving some as emotional as Kenny.
“Awww man this made me cry,” one wrote.
‘I’m in tears!! Little man is so cute,” added another.
“Wowwww… the way Ken reacted made me melt,” said a third.
Footy fans’ hearts melted after seeing ‘The Fox’ sign and hand over his top – while a sassy youngster told him, ‘It’s my birthday in 27 days!’
The Dogs winger scored two tries against the Roosters to continue the strong comeback after an injury saw him make his way back to the NSW State of Origin team
Another commenter wrote, “This is my little nephew, he loves Josh so much, this moment meant everything to him.”
Addo-Carr is known as a great football ambassador thanks to his love of spending time with fans, as he did when he spent 20 minutes signing autographs in the parking lot of CommBank Stadium after a match in May, despite wearing a protective boot with a serious ankle injury.
“He stumbled out to his car and was absolutely harassed, and he stayed there and took every photo, signed every autograph… it was just great stuff,” radio host Ray Thomas said of the scenes.
“I just love to give back and put smiles on faces. I think that’s what it’s all about,” Addo-Carr said Sports bible last month.
“You don’t know who’s having a hard time right now. Someone may be going through a rough time meeting you and all they want is a photo and a chat.
“So putting a smile on their face is what I’ve always thought about when meeting people.”
Addo-Carr scored two tries in the loss to the Roosters, continuing his strong form since coming back from the injury and making his way back to the NSW State of Origin team.
