Angel Di Maria has confirmed he will not be extending his stay at Juventus beyond the 2022/2023 season in a heartfelt farewell message to fans.
The 35-year-old defender signed a one-year contract with the Italian giants last summer with an option to extend his contract for a further 12 months.
However, Di Maria will move to new pastures after a frustrating injury-plagued season.
Juventus recorded their worst league finish in 11 years (7th place) during Di Maria’s stay and the Argentine star admits he is leaving the Allianz Arena with a ‘bitter taste in his mouth’ having been unable to lead the club back to their former glory.
“I have come to the end of a difficult and complicated period,” Di Maria wrote on Instagram.

Di Maria released a statement announcing the news that he will not extend his stay at Juve
“I leave safe in the knowledge that I gave everything for the club to keep winning titles, but it was not possible.
“I leave with a bitter taste for not succeeding, but with the joy of bringing many friends into this wonderful dressing room that I was a part of.
“Thank you to all my teammates for the affection they showed me from day one, I always felt at home. I salute all Juventini for their daily affection.
‘A big hug. I will carry you in my heart.’
Di Maria’s next steps are unclear, although his priority is to stay in Europe to improve his chances of being selected for Argentina’s squad at the 2024 Copa America tournament.
Many top clubs have been linked with a move for the World Cup winner, including Inter Milan, Benfica, Newcastle, Tottenham and Arsenal.
