The cheeky reason Jack Whitehall became ‘the first person’ to withdraw his Nando’s Black Card: Star, 34, admits he ‘abused’ unlimited free Peri-Peri chicken offer

  • Comedian Jack Whitehall is the ‘first person’ to have Nando’s Black Card revoked
  • The 34-year-old star admitted to sharing free meals with his friends
  • Nando said Whitehall’s use of the card was not “in the spirit of the offer.”

Comedian Jack Whitehall has revealed the brutal reason why he “became the first person” to have a Nando’s Black Card revoked.

The Travels With My Father star, 34, told how he made generous use of the card while studying at university in Manchester, using it “every day for six months”.

The comic is an avid fan of the fast-food chain, which is famous for its Portuguese fire-grilled peri-peri style chicken, often referencing it in its past stand-up material.

Speaking to Matt White, the host of Manchester’s Finest YouTube channel, Whitehall confessed: ‘You could get four free meals on it and I’d bring all my friends […] daily.

“And then I became the first person to take back the black card from the Nandos for misusing it.

Anyone hoping to get their hands on a Nando's High Five card might be out of luck, as they are only issued by the chain in special circumstances, with Ed Sheeran being among a select list of people who own one

He added that the prestigious card was taken away from him because the way he used it “did not fit the spirit of the offer.”

The High Five Card provides unlimited amounts of free meals to the owner for a year.

The terms of use on the card state: ‘As a valued friend of Nando’s, the person listed on this card is entitled to one entrée, one combo meal, one dessert and one soft drink – along with up to four friends. Sorry no free alcoholic drinks’.

However, anyone hoping to get their hands on one is out of luck, as they are only issued by the chain in special circumstances, with Ed Sheeran being among a select list of people who own one.

Sheeran went to great lengths to keep his card and wrote the song ‘Nandos Skank’ with Example to ensure the former could keep his black card membership.

On their policy regarding the coveted black card, Nando’s website states: ‘We can tell you with certainty that no one who asked for a card, no matter how politely, was ever given one. Asking is simply the biggest taboo – a clear no no.’

Indeed, it’s not just Sheeran who publicly shares his love for Nandos.

Amazingly, Beyonce spent nearly £2,000 on Nando’s on a recent leg of her UK tour, paying to feed her entire crew.

The ‘Crazy in Love’ star ordered 110 chicken burgers, 90 pittas and nine chicken thighs for a bill of £1,800.

Instead of staying under the radar by using a false name for the order, the superstar’s team used her real name.

Other celebrities who have given Nando’s public rating include David Beckham. Pixie Lott, Greg James and, perhaps surprisingly, Oprah Winfrey.

Nando’s has been contacted by MailOnline for comment.
