  • The Belgian says he will not let his career be determined by the outcome of the final

Kevin De Bruyne refuses to let the outcome of Saturday’s Champions League final against Inter determine his career.

The Manchester City talisman suffered a concussion with a broken eye socket on a memorable night during the club’s first final, the 2021 defeat to Chelsea.

And while he accepts that City must conquer Europe to gain recognition in some quarters, De Bruyne believes Pep Guardiola’s side have already proven themselves enough.

“It depends who you ask,” said the 31-year-old. ‘Will it help? Yes. But a 90 minutes doesn’t define a career.

“I play about 700 matches. One of 700 minutes out of 90 doesn’t define my career. But of course it helps.

‘We have performed very well. We played so many quarters and semi-finals and two finals. We have been there most of the time.

“I want to win the Champions League and I want to win the Treble. We have to enjoy next week and hopefully we can perform as well as possible.’

De Bruyne has warned that while City go to Istanbul as firm favourites, they cannot underestimate an Inter team that has grown beyond Porto, Benfica and AC Milan.

“They are a very good team,” he added. Finals are 50-50. It’s always hard. You have to manage these moments.

“There will be times when it is difficult, but in the big moments we try to do our job. Inter have great players and we respect them. They didn’t get to the final by beating easy teams.’
