Man and his dog travel 7,000 miles around the world after he found her as a stray in Eastern Europe

An intrepid traveler who picked up a stray pup last year is traipsing the globe with his adopted dog in tow – all atop a tall bicycle with a built-in trailer for his furry friend.

Alex Sidney is currently ‘bikepacking’ across the Middle East, covering nearly 7,000 miles after setting out from South East England in January last year.

The content creator has so far crossed a total of 20 countries, taking in sights from Switzerland and Croatia to Kurdistan and Iran.

Now that Nova is by his side and has picked up his new friend along the way, Alex has continued to document the pair’s incredible journeys together.

Today marks the 400th day of their tour since they left home in January 2022, and Alex and Nova are not about to stop now.

Alex discovered his future companion on a bridge over the Danube River between Serbia and Romania, six months after he started his journey.

The cyclist then tried to find her a new home before deciding to adopt her himself.

She was hungry and lonely and in danger where she was,” Alex wrote on his social media at the time, “so I decided to take her on the tall bike, intending to take her to the nearest town so she could at least find food and don’t risk falling off the bridge.

‘I didn’t expect her to cross the border, an undocumented bum, but by some miracle she did, after a short conversation.

After spending some time with Nova, Alex fell in love with the sweet little pup and decided he couldn’t continue his journey without her.

“We took her to the local vet and got her vaccinations, chip and passport so I had to come up with a name quickly – now I had to keep her,” Alex explained.

“So yes, Nova will join me on the tall bike this year and travel through Europe towards Asia.

“She’s a devilish little dog, with tons of energy, and proves almost impossible to train, but she’s just a pup after all!”

Nova, a mixed-breed stray dog, has her own basket on the boot of his tall bicycle, where she sits back and enjoys the view as the pair travel the world together.

When she’s not sitting back enjoying the ride, Nova runs alongside Alex and his bike, enjoying the best walks a dog could ever ask for.

Some of Alex’s followers lashed out at the content creator after he posted a video of Nova trotting alongside him chained to the bike with a leash.

“She’s got a trailer, it’s not very visible in this video, but it’s there.” he explained.

“She is trained to jump in or out whenever she pleases… She is not forced to run alongside the bike, she prefers to run because she is a puppy with too much energy.

“She’s not always so chained to the bike. Most of the time she roams free, but when we are on a main road it’s best to have a leash on so she can’t mix with the other vehicles on the road if she chooses to run rather than in stay the trailer.’

Originally from Italy, Alex grew up in the UK and always loved messing around with the mechanics of bicycles. He decided to combine this passion with his sense of adventure to travel the world.
