Ally McCoist believes West Ham captain Declan Rice should go to Arsenal rather than Manchester United this summer.
Rice, who could cost £100 million, would rather join a Premier League club despite interest from Bayern Munich.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with a Rice move and United are also interested in signing the 24-year-old.
McCoist believes Rice is best served by going to Arsenal as Erik ten Hag’s United are still ‘four or five players down’ on Manchester City who beat them in Saturday’s FA Cup final.
While McCoist acknowledged that Arsenal are “far behind” City, he believes the Gunners can move closer to Pep Guardiola’s side more quickly.

McCoist stated that United are “four or five players” behind champions Manchester City
Speaking talkSPORTsaid McCoist: “If I’m Declan Rice and weighing my options, I probably think I’d rather go to Arsenal than Manchester United.
“I watched Manchester United this weekend and I know they won the League Cup, but they look like they are four or five players behind Manchester City. I still think Arsenal are well behind Manchester City, but I think they have the potential to get closer faster.
Arsenal will make an opening bid of £90 million for Rice following West Ham’s Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina on Wednesday.
Rice, who has spent his entire senior career with West Ham to date, is believed to be settling in London.
Arsenal, who are also interested in Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, believe signing Rice would be an important step in the right direction as Mikel Arteta’s side look to build on the progress they’ve made this season.

The Gunners finished second in the Premier League, five points behind champions City.
United, meanwhile, finished third, 14 points behind Guardiola’s team.
Rice has made 244 appearances for West Ham, and holding up the Europa Conference League trophy would be an excellent way to sign off.
The England international has plenty of experience playing at a high level and is now eager to test himself in the Champions League.
