Woman dead after family of five in Texas shot as they got out of their car, injuring a man and three children

- The woman died, while the rest of the family was hospitalized
A Texas woman has died after her family of five, including her three children, was shot at on Sunday night as they exited their car.
The interim police chief in Sunnyvale — about 15 miles east of Dallas — said they responded to a gun disturbance call just before 6 p.m. local time.
The family had parked in their apartment complex and were followed by two suspects.
As soon as the man, woman and three children got out of their white car, the suspects started shooting. After that, there were visible bullet holes in the windows of the vehicle.
The woman was able to get out of the car and run into her apartment, but was pronounced dead at the scene when authorities arrived.

The victims have not yet been identified. The children, all between the ages of eight and 10, are expected to survive.
The man was taken to a different hospital than the children. Police were on their way to question him Sunday evening.
Sunnyvale Police Department interim chief Bill Vegas was shocked by the shooting.
“I’ve been in the business for 33 years, and it’s never an easy place to walk up where five people have been shot… three kids is pretty awful,” he said. CBSDallas.
Authorities say the suspects are an adult man and an adult woman.
Police also said they believe the suspects were driving a black Toyota Camry.
The city police are also working with the neighboring city of Mesquite to share security camera footage in their investigation.
When asked if there was a threat to the public, Vegas explained that there were so many unknowns that it was possible the suspects could strike again.

“I wouldn’t say there’s no danger to the public. We don’t know where they are,” Vegas said.
“We do know they are armed. We do know they can shoot, so there is a clear threat,” he added.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the shooting.
