Shields also said that Grier has been busy doing “little things here and there,” but she remains steadfast about her daughter not becoming a runway model.
“I fought it for so long,” she recalls. ‘It’s such a different industry now than it used to be.’
The Blue Lagoon star also pointed out that models face extra pressure these days compared to the past.
“We didn’t have social media when I was a model,” she said before noting that the current state of the modeling industry has become a “rat race.”
She revealed that she worries and fears Grier – who is “ridiculously stunning” and wants to hit the runway.
In the past, Shields mainly pursued print modeling and did not walk the catwalk in fashion shows.
“That’s brutal and backstage is just brutal,” she added. “I’ve never done a catwalk. I don’t think I could handle it.’
Due to the intensity of modeling on the runway, she advised against her daughter.

Her experience: Shields also said she wouldn’t manage her daughter the way her own mother did, and she told her daughter to sign with a modeling agency.
In the end, she revealed that she “had to give in,” but compromised by setting strict ground rules and insisting that her daughter still enroll in college.
“You’ll have a great work ethic,” she recalled telling her daughter. “It won’t be comfortable, and you’re going to listen to me. Those are my rules.’
