Man and son, 8, found dead in grisly murder suicide four years after child’s mother disappears

The son of a former Major League Baseball star was found dead along with his 8-year-old son in an apparent murder-suicide two weeks after police searched his home in connection with the 2019 disappearance of the boy’s mother.

George Scott III, 53, was found dead at his home in New Bedford, Massachusetts shortly after 8 a.m. when police received a request to conduct a health check.

They arrived at the bodies of both Scott and 8-year-old Dante lying dead on the floor.

A spokesman for the local district attorney said they believed Scott killed the boy – who lived with him – before committing suicide.

District Attorney Thomas Quinn said they found several knives at the scene and took them as evidence.

Scott III is the son of the late Boston Red Sox player George Scott, who hit 271 home runs in a 14-year career in the majors.

The younger Scott had also attempted to become a professional football player, progressing through several minor league teams in the 1990s.

“One of the best athletes I’ve ever seen,” Scott III said of his father. “He could have been drafted by the NBA and the NFL. Baseball was the ‘least best’ sport he played. He was absolutely a legend.’

The 8-year-old boy is the son of Lisa Hazard, a woman who went missing in March 2019, according to the Boston sphere.

A spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney said Scott was considered a person with a stake in her disappearance.

“Obviously this is a tragic situation that could be a development in the case, but we need to review the evidence in this case,” Quinn said, referring to both cases.

Just two weeks earlier, the district attorney’s office had executed a search warrant in the same home.

“This group was created in hopes of providing more information about Lisa and getting her back home. It is very different for her not to contact her family, especially her son, who is her whole world,” the page read.

Relatives said in 2019 that Hazard was recovering from drug addiction but had become erratic.

“She started missing important dates like my mom’s birthday or her son’s birthday or Mother’s Day, and that’s really unusual for Lisa, because she’s always done everything for the family, especially her son,” her brother Steven said. . NBC 10 last October.

He had also launched a Twitter page for a podcast called Boomer’s Base in reference to his late father’s nickname. No episodes appear to have been released.
