Female crime story fan killed and dismembered South Korean woman ‘to see what it was like for real’

A young obsessive crime novelist who has confessed to murdering and dismembering another woman murdered her victim “out of curiosity” to see what it was like, South Korean police said Thursday.

Police in the southern city of Busan said the woman, who was arrested Wednesday, was engrossed in crime stories and wanted to see what murder would be like in real life.

Jung Yoo-jung, 23, has confessed to the murder of an unnamed freelance teacher and was charged with the crime on Friday.

The young crime fanatic had previously told police that she killed her victim after an argument. The Chosunilbo reported, but officers quickly discovered contradictions in her story. After being urged to tell the truth by her family, Jung confessed to the police.

Authorities confirmed that they are conducting tests to determine whether Jung is considered a psychopath.

“Jung appeared to have committed the crime with premeditation, driven by a desire to kill someone after becoming obsessed with murder through TV shows and books.” The Chosunilbo This was reported by a Busan police spokesman.

“Jung also said she regrets what she did,” the police spokesman added. “We’re running tests to see if she’s a psychopath.”

After collecting evidence, authorities believe the murder and breakup were carefully planned.

Police said Jung’s phone records show she had spent the past three months scowling the Internet for tips on how to hide a corpse.

Police also believe they used crime novels and television shows as investigations. Jung’s library file shows that she borrowed a number of crime stories in the months leading up to the crime.

Jung found her victim using a tutoring app to get in touch with parents. She pretended to be the mother of a schoolchild who wanted her daughter to learn English. They both agreed that the daughter could come for a consultation with the tutor two days later.

Jung then bought a school uniform online to pose as the fake daughter. When she entered the victim’s residence, she stabbed her with a knife.

Police said, “Jung is short, and with the uniform on, the victim probably mistook her for a high school student.”

After planning the crime, police said Jung visited a nearby supermarket where she bought rolls of large garbage bags and bottles of bleach.

Jung then sliced ​​and dismembered her victim and put some of her body parts in a briefcase. She then got into a taxi and dumped the suitcase in the Nakdong River in a remote forest area.

According to police, Jung had tried to “make it look like the victim had disappeared.”

“Jung kept the victim’s cell phone, ID and wallet and tried to commit a perfect crime.”

However, the taxi driver became suspicious and alerted the authorities.

Police recalled the case only to find blood-stained clothing. The remaining body parts were found in Jung’s home.

“Jung was a loner and a recluse who has been unemployed since he left high school five years ago,” police said.

Jung was escorted from the detention center for prosecution on Friday morning. She told reporters she “really feels sorry for the victim’s family,” The Korea Times reported.

She added, “I think I was crazy,” when reporters asked why she was trying to cover up the murder.
