San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has continued to make happy progress on his return from UCL surgery and has started throwing the ball again, general manager John Lynch said.
“He’s only had one session so far, but that’s incredibly encouraging to us,” Lynch said during a radio appearance. “He hits all his marks and we’re not surprised because he puts the work in.
Best case scenario, we just take it as it comes. The hope is that he is ready for training camp. The hope is that he is ready for the regular season.”
The 49ers buyer has remained steadfast that if he recovers in time, Purdy will be the starter in Week 1 of the regular season.
“We feel holistically good about that position,” Lynch said. “We’re not going to do anything to put Brock in a situation where he’s not fully healed. That means not just going back, but going back and getting reps under your belt.”

Trey Lance has been shooting shots as the starting QB this offseason during Purdy’s absence
Meanwhile, Tray Lance, the third overall pick of 2021, has hosted all of the first-team representatives in practice for San Fran, according to ESPN.
“Trey Lance is the man during OTAs who hired all the first team representatives; he is healthy at the moment, Jeff Darlington reported.
Sam Darnold really gets emergency service as he gets his playbook a little under his belt. But for now, Trey Lance will get his chance with those first-team representatives.”
Lance opened as the 49ers starter last season before suffering a fractured fibula and ligament damage on September 18 against the Seattle Seahawks, forcing him to miss the rest of the season.
San Francisco also has the 2018 No. 3 overall pick under contract for the year in Darnold, but as previously mentioned he appears to be stuck in a bench role after his unsuccessful stints with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers.
As for presumptive starter Purdy, who stepped in last season after both Lance and former QB Jimmy Garoppolo both lost for the season, Purdy performed tremendously.
In nine games (five starts), he completed 67.1 percent of his passes for 13 touchdowns and 1,374 yards, and four interceptions.
Purdy then went 41-of-63 for 569 yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs.
