EXC: Mel B’s daughter Phoenix on moving out of home with her boyfriend and overcoming ‘insecurities’

Phoenix Brown has revealed that she’s “went through her own struggles” as she details overcoming body confidence issues to star in a new Pour Moi lingerie campaign.

Phoenix teams up with her celebrity mom, 48, and grandma Andrea, who is in her 60s, for the gorgeous shoot, which has been left completely untouched.

In an exclusive interview with MailOnline, Phoenix, 24, — whose father is Mel’s first husband Jimmy Gulzar — discussed overcoming her own body’s “insecurities” and wanting to project an attainable image onto her fans.

She said, “I feel like every girl goes through their own little issues growing up and becoming a teenager. I’ve been through being overweight or insecure and all that stuff.

“Doing these kinds of shoots, or just seeing other people with their families and different body shapes and proportions, it gives you a different sense of perspective and it gives you a little bit more confidence.

“I felt blessed to be able to do that for other people and be in a shoot like that. It was amazing. But yes, I’ve clearly been through my own struggles.’

During the interview, Phoenix revealed that she has moved out with her boyfriend AJ Anderson as she builds a career for herself in London.

While Mel B’s eldest daughter is passionate about her role as a patron of domestic violence charity Women’s Aid, she is eager to break new ground in music, fashion and modeling in the Big Smoke.

Phoenix – who already has some exciting DJ gigs to her name, as well as a runner-up medal in ITV’s The Games – certainly has big ambitions and doesn’t want to limit herself to just one talent.

She explained, “Well, it sounds cliché, but I just want to do everything. I have many desires, hobbies, and I don’t really want to stick to one career… not my mother. No one in my family has, and I feel like if you don’t have to, you don’t have to.

“I wanted to be more integrated into the music in my own way because it has been my life for so long. So yes, I picked up DJing and I enjoy it so much. It’s so much fun. Maybe I’ll get into other ways of music in the future.

“I mean fashion has always been a big thing for me too. So music and fashion kind of go hand in hand, which is nice.

“Modelling is something I enjoy more now, being in front of the camera. Presenting is something I like to get into. Yes, I have many things.’

It is well known that Mel is a strong advocate for women’s rights as a patron of women’s aid – and she was even awarded an MBE in the 2022 New Year Honours.

The former X Factor judge started campaigning after she split from her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte in 2017.

But Phoenix also throws herself into her charity work, where she mentors young people who have experienced domestic violence.

She clarified, “We both work in different fields. I work with younger kids, as opposed to older women, which I think means more to me just because I went through what I went through as a little girl. It’s nice to be surrounded in such an environment.’

While the influencer kept schtum about details surrounding her boyfriend – who is not in the public eye – her mom couldn’t resist talking about the happy couple.

Mel told MailOnline how the couple lived in her home in Leeds during the coronavirus lockdowns and that it was she who encouraged them to get their own place.

She said, “Phoenix has had the same boyfriend for quite some time now. We went there because he’s half Ghanaian, half Scottish. So we went there and had a whole New Year’s party there a few years ago, which is really beautiful.

“They lived with me during Covid or the whole lockdown thing. When we finally got on the road, I thought, “It’s about time you pursued your career, your goals, your aspirations.”

“So yes, she moved out with her boyfriend, lives in London and still comes home a lot. I see her often because a lot of my work is in London too, and it’s actually good. It’s actually created that nice separation where I don’t literally tell her, “Clean your room, do this, do that.” So it’s been pretty fun for our relationship.

“If Phoenix went overseas or if she wasn’t just a phone call or a train ride away, I would have felt that separation a lot worse. But you know, it wasn’t like I wouldn’t see her.

“I mean, when she left, she came back the next weekend and the next weekend and the other weekend and she’s around me constantly and I’m constantly back and forth to London.

So it wasn’t like she was up and down. I mean, the house is definitely quieter, that’s for sure, but it was fun.”
