Conor McGregor has “accepted” a celebrity boxing match with 58-year-old UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman.
MMA legend Coleman has had a stellar career, but hasn’t fought since 2010.
In 1997, he became the inaugural UFC Heavyweight Champion by submitting Dan Severn at UFC 12 and is also a two-time UFC superfight tournament winner (UFC 10 and UFC 11).
But despite being well past his sell-by date, The Hammer could end up in the ring with McGregor this year.
Coleman has signed a deal with Celebrity Boxing for a fight in October and McGregor has welcomed the idea of being his first opponent.
Conor McGregor will return later this year in the UFC Octagon against Michael Chandler
Mark Coleman is making his famous boxing debut in October and wants it to be against McGregor
‘Challenge accepted!’ McGregor wrote in a now-deleted tweet under a post announcing that Coleman would fight at the end of the year.
Coleman saw the tweet before it was deleted and responded with a video call on Instagram. “Hey Conor McGregor, I’m a huge fan,” he said.
‘Thanks for calling me! It must be in boxing because I would crush you in MMA, you know that. You’re probably going to lose a decision in boxing, but I want a red panty night.’
It is unlikely McGregor will have time to fit the exhibition game into his busy schedule as he is currently gearing up for a return to the Octagon against Chandler later this year.
The Rivals just finished filming for the final season of the Ultimate Fighter, which sees them take on the role of coaches before they really go down in the UFC.
No date or location has been announced yet, though McGregor recently assured fans that everything will be revealed during the show.
The Irishman has been out since breaking his leg during his last appearance against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
He is now fully recovered and is expected to rejoin the USADA drug testing pool in the coming weeks.
