An influencer couple’s airplane etiquette about overhead baggage leaves fellow fliers divided
- A social media user has gone viral after sharing a rather controversial statement
A couple left the internet divided after sharing their airplane etiquette for fellow travelers to follow.
Travel influencers Matt and Hillary, behind TikTok account @HillnPoo, posted a video telling passengers not to store their coats and jackets in the overhead luggage compartment.
According to them, travelers should instead hang their coats on the designated hooks or drape their coats across their laps.
Tiktoker @HillnPoo, led by travel influencers Matt and Hillary, said vacationers always make a mistake when packing for a flight
The TikToker urged people to use hooks on the backs of their plane seats, but social media users are divided over the statement
In the video, which has been viewed more than 240,000 times, the voiceover says, “If you plan on flying in 2023, please don’t be the people who stuff an entire upper closet with your coats.
It’s an absolute waste of space. They can sit on your lap or most airlines have hooks.”
They later added in the comments that coats can go in the overhead bin, but only “after everyone has had a chance to put their bags away.”
Users of the social media site are divided on the rule, with some saying it’s just common sense, while others claiming they have every right to use the upstairs space.
One angry user, claiming to be a flight attendant, wrote on TikTok: “Hi, I’m a flight attendant, I hate it when passengers put their coats in the trash. Wait a moment until the luggage is in the box and then slide your coat in.’
And another person said, ‘Yes please! It’s storage for large luggage, not a wardrobe.’
A third commented, “People are so inconsiderate. I never fly with hand luggage either.’
While another said simply, ‘I can’t handle the coats in the overhead compartments. It’s not a coat rack. It’s for storing bags and luggage!’
One traveler suggested that planes should allocate the lockers, writing: ‘They should really just start labeling overhead bins above each seat’
However, other people were confused as to why the cabin crew asks you to store your belongings there in the first place.
They wrote, “Given that crew personnel ask you to put your jacket there, it makes no sense not to.”
And another person who disagreed with the TikTok video said, “Well, that’s not exactly right. I tried a few times to keep it on my knees and the flight attendant stowed it above my head.’
While one traveler suggested that planes should allocate the lockers, he wrote, “They should really just start labeling overhead bins above each seat. One chair, one overhead storage space.’
