Yorkshire remain WINLESS in all formats this summer after 28-run defeat to Durham in T20 Blast as Alex Lees returns to chase them… as Surrey suffer their first loss of the summer

  • Yorkshire have yet to win in all cricket formats amid turmoil off the pitch
  • They suffered a 28-run defeat to Durham at Headingley in the Blast on Sunday
  • Elsewhere there were victories for Sussex and Somerset in Sunday’s games

Yorkshire’s nightmare season continued with a 28-point defeat to Durham in the T20 Blast at Headingley.

The damage was done by Alex Lees, who left Yorkshire in 2018 and knocked off a career-best 90 off 53 balls to take the visitors to 217 for three after Graham Clark – a centurion against Northamptonshire on Friday – had the first ball of the innings lost.

There were also runs for Durham wicket-keeper Ollie Robinson, who hit an unbeaten 64 from 30 balls, another career record, before Ben Raine took three for 27 in Yorkshire’s reply of 189 for seven.

The defeat, their third of three in T20 cricket this season, means Yorkshire – currently bottom of the second division of the provincial championship – are still winless in all cricket.

Amid ongoing speculation about would-be sugar daddies saving them from financial oblivion following the fallout from the Azeem Rafiq racism scandal, the search for solace on the field continues.

Meanwhile, Surrey suffered their first defeat in all cricket, losing by five wickets to Sussex at The Oval.

Chasing a humble 149, Sussex dropped to 56 for four, before Tom Alsop and wicketkeeper Michael Burgess, on a penalty of 48 for 28, got them back on track.

Alsop were still there with an unbeaten 51 at the end as Sussex came home with a ball to spare to open their account in the South Group. Earlier, Sussex captain Ravi Bopara took three for 18 to keep Surrey’s batsmen quiet.

In the other match of the day, Somerset took three wins out of three after a four-wicket win over Glamorgan at Taunton.

Set 154, they were boosted by opener Tom Banton’s 28-ball 54, and raced home with 31 balls to spare. Somerset now top the South Group, with the only record of 100 per cent in the division.
