A young eshay has been photographed surfing through a McDonald’s drive-thru in Sydney.

Photos of the moment captured Saturday night show the young man sitting on the back of a Subaru BRZ, his legs tucked under the spoiler at McDonald’s in Waterloo, south of Sydney’s CBD.

The man appears to have made it past the drive-thru register and is only feet away from receiving food.

“In accordance with McDonald’s safety guidelines, customers must follow traffic rules when visiting the McDonald’s drive-thru,” a McDonald’s spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

“This includes staying in their vehicle.”

Autosurfing was made a criminal offense in 2004, after a parliamentary inquiry into the activity was passed.

Prior to the investigation, autosurfing was technically legal due to a loophole.

The study described motor-surfing as: ‘a dangerous activity by vehicle occupants (usually young people) that can result in serious injury or death’.

“Sometimes this is done as a game or challenge to see who can stay seated longest and land on your feet if the car or ute suddenly stops or spins,” said the Joint Standing Committee on Road Safety.

“Vehicle occupants ride on the hood, roof, or trunk lid of moving cars, stand up and balance in the box of cars, or cling to or are pulled by vehicles while skateboarding or roller skating.”

Statistics from Transport for NSW show that between 2012 and 2016 three people were killed by motor surfing and 130 people were injured.

The most recent death was of a 15-year-old girl who died of fatal injuries in 2020 after falling off the roof of a moving car in Perth.
