Lewis Capaldi ‘told off by BBC’ for swearing through his Radio 1 Big Weekend set
Lewis Capaldi couldn’t stop swearing during his appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Dundee, Scotland on Sunday.
The singer, 26, delighted fans at his headline show as he released some of his most loved songs.
However, the BBC reportedly told the musician off because of the amount of swearing between songs.
One fan shared their reaction on Twitter, writing, “Lewis Capaldi on #BigWeekend is brilliant! BBC told him to stop swearing. Great to see the set live on Iplayer’
Another said: “It’s a shame Lewis Capaldi can’t just sing without all the swearing…”

Before his big performance, fans were in awe of the ‘sweet’ friendship between him and his friend Niall Horan, when the Scottish singer jumped on stage to hug him during Niall’s set.
Lewis Capaldi previously said of the news that he was performing: ‘I’m really excited to be playing in Dundee for Big Weekend, I never managed to get tickets last time so I’m really excited to be able to come along and enjoy it to enjoy. but also play.’
The music festival took place at Camperdown Park in Dundee, Scotland, with over 80,000 music fans attending the three-day festival over the bank holiday weekend at the end of May.
Radio 1’s big weekend was originally set to go to Dundee in 2020, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic it was cancelled.
On Saturday, The 1975 and The Jonas Brothers headlined, with performances by ArrDee, Jess Glynne, Joel Corry, Mimi Webb and Tom Grennan.
Meanwhile, FLO, Headie One, Pale Waves, Romy, Rudimental, Self Esteem and The Snuts performed on the Future Sounds stage.
The full lineup for Sunday consisted of Lewis Capaldi, Wet Leg and Niall Horan headlining the main stage.
On the main stage they were joined by hit parades such as Anne-Marie, Becky, Nothing But Thieves and Zara Larsson.
The Radio 1 Future Sounds stage featured Arlo Parks, Ashnikko, Cassyette, Cat Burns, Inhaler, RAYE and Sub Focus.
Lewis’s new album has outsold the rest of the official top 20 album chart and has become the fastest selling album of the year to date.
According to the Official Charts Company, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent surpassed the previous biggest opening week of the year, Ed Sheeran’s Subtract, and outperformed Capaldi’s 2019 album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent.
Lewis’s album totaled over 95,000 chart positions, while Capaldi’s previous album had only reached 89,000 chart positions in its first week of release.

Speaking to the Official Charts Company, Capaldi said, “What good is a man if he gains the world, but loses his soul?” A damn number one album, baby!

Sleep Token’s Take Me Back To Eden is number two on the album chart this week, followed by Def Leppard/Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Drastic Symphonies album.
Ed Sheeran’s latest album, Subtract, ranks fourth on the album chart, while Harry Styles’ Harry’s House ranks fifth.
Capaldi also appears on the singles chart this week, with song Wish You The Best at number three.
David Kushner’s song Daylight is number two on the charts behind Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding’s number one single Miracle.
According to the Official Charts Company, Capaldi has claimed the biggest album opening of any week since Taylor Swift released her album Midnights in October 2022.
Upon its release, Midnights immediately broke a series of records and became Spotify’s most-streamed album in one day.

Lewis, who was diagnosed with Gilles de la Tourette after doctors noticed his uncontrollable shoulder twitches, also discussed being a hypochondriac.
Hypochondriasis causes patients to feel extreme anxiety about their health, including worrying that they are or may become seriously ill.
The Scottish singer said: ‘I’ve always been a hypochondriac. I’ve been obsessed, if there’s something wrong with me, I’m like, “F**k, I’m going to die.”
“I went to a therapist and she said, ‘Don’t you think that has anything to do with the fact that your grandmother and your aunt both died when you were three and four, within a year.’
