Warhammer 40K goes Twisted Metal in the combat racer Speed Freeks

Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 franchise aims to fill the Twisted Metal hole in fans’ hearts with a new car combat racing game. Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freezea free-to-play, class-based, multiplayer car battle racing game inspired by a miniature game from 2018 is coming to Windows PC, with an alpha playtest on Steam on Thursday.

While the draw seems to blow up Orcs behind the wheel, there’s more than just wanton destruction at play Speed Freeks. Players will fight each other in different rigs – there are types of damage, tanks and support – in multiple game modes. In Chase mode, teams capture points and fight to control them, while Convoy mode is about protecting your convoy while trying to sabotage your enemy’s.

Presumably there will also be an option to just jump in Speed FreeksGames for 16 players and blow each other up.

Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeze is being developed by Caged Element, which has made another combat racing game, Grip — with a bit of a Wipeout/MotorStorm vibe — and published by Plaion. So says the developer Speed Freeks is “a bit messy, rickety and screwed together”, so expect some bugs when you start the alpha test.

You can request access to play Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeze early at Steam.
