Jimmy Kimmel hosts Las Vegas comedy benefit in support of godson Joey Porrello and Project ALS

Jimmy Kimmel will host a comedy show Friday in support of ALS research as his godson Joey Porrello is currently battling the disease.

“Come to Vegas with me and my friends on Friday night to support my godson Joey and everyone battling ALS,” the 55-year-old ABC host said in a late-night Instagram post.

The Brooklyn-born star, who hosted the Oscars earlier this year, tagged his comedy collaborators on the show, including his ex Sarah Silverman, Jeffrey Ross, Patton Oswalt, Nick Kroll and Mark Rober, as well as his Sin Coty-based venue, Jimmy Kimmels Comedy club.

Porrello, 29, spoke to a Las Vegas outlet earlier this month KTV about living with Lou Gehrig’s disease, one year after he was diagnosed with the disease.

“My life is perfect in every way,” Porrello told the station. “I feel extremely privileged.”

The talk show host’s cheerful godson said his biggest obstacles in living with ALS are the way it interferes with his ability to communicate.

“I’m losing my voice, my ability to interact with other people and express my personality,” Porrello, who is a father of children Ottilie, three, and Wally, 10 months, told the station.

Alli told the outlet that she and her husband picked up on the potential issues when he started having problems with his wrist and mobility.

“He fell right one time, and I think that’s when I thought, This is really serious, because it’s not just your hand, it’s your whole body not communicating,” she told the outlet.

The Porrrellos credited Kimmel for helping them find a doctor and putting them in touch Project ALSthe organization focused on seeking treatments and a cure for the condition.
