The Bachelorette’s Angie Kent mourns the loss of her best friend Tommy: ‘Goodbye’

The Bachelorette’s Angie Kent shared the heartbreaking news that her best friend Tommy has passed away at the age of 42.

The 33-year-old shared a gallery of photos on her Instagram on Tuesday alongside some sad words.

“Goodbye, not forever my prince. I forgot to add Tommy with the most important loves of his life,” she captioned a photo of Tommy with her dogs.

“All of our rescue dogs over the years. I couldn’t have met a person who loved dogs more than this man.’

“I’ve been quiet here since I heard the news of one of my best friends passing.”

Angie continued, “Shock, grieving, grieving and feeling all the feelings! I think it’s important to take time and stay present.’

Angie lived with Tom in Sydney for about three years, along with former Gogglebox Australia co-star Yvie Jones.

Tom had Down syndrome and diabetes that required full-time care, which Angie intervened before.

“I’m here to help him with his diabetes, wake him up in the morning, and help him have a healthy routine,” Angie told The Project in 2019.

The TV star, who has since moved to a new place, said Tom was always a joy to live with and often put a smile on her face.

Angie and Tom’s living arrangement was set up by his mother Rachael Haggett, who wanted her son to live a fulfilling life outside of a group care home.

“She’s not just ‘The Bachelorette,’ she’s a very caring, responsible young woman. She’s very skilled at being a supportive person and a good friend,” she said.

Angie took care of Tom in exchange for rent, but never saw it as a simple transaction.

She has taken Tom abroad to Bali and the UK, which his mother said was not easy due to his intellectual disability.

“It was a crazy dysfunctional family, but it just worked,” Angie said.

“It’s one of those things where it doesn’t feel like work because there’s so much love, you’re like a family.”

Rachael said the arrangement has enabled her son to enjoy life more and wishes more disabled people had the opportunity.

“If you could get more support, I think more families would do it,” she said.
