Revealed: Where in the world men are most likely to sit down to pee – and it’s Germany that tops the ranking (and they even have a name for those with this habit… ‘sitzpinklers’)

The countries where men are most likely to sit down to urinate have been revealed – and it’s Germany that takes the number 1 spot in the ranking.

Forty percent of Germans say they sit down to urinate every time, and another 22 percent do so ‘most of the time’. Only 10 percent say they never do.

This is evident from a study by market research firm YouGovwho made a tongue-in-cheek comment after publishing the results that a previous lack of data in his public archive on men’s urination habits had been a “glaring omission.”

To set the record straight, it conducted a survey across 13 countries of men’s urination preferences.

YouGov pointed out that in Germany it is not uncommon for signs in public restrooms encouraging men to sit down to urinate. But ironically, the country has a slightly derogatory name for men who do that: “sitzpinkler.” This translates to English as someone who likes to sit down to pee, but it’s also used, YouGov said, “to suggest that a man is limp or effeminate.”

The results of the survey show that British men are among the least likely to take a pee, with 33 per cent saying they ‘never’ do so – tied with Poles.

In terms of places where men “always” sit down to urinate, Australia is the next most enthusiastic adopter after Germany, with 25 percent of men, followed by Sweden at 22 percent, YouGov said.

Looking at the results for North America, it continued, “In the US, 23 percent of men always or often sit down to go for a number one, compared to 31 percent who never do. Canadian men are more likely to be frequent “sitzpinklers” at 35 percent, with 21 percent saying they always stand to urinate.’

The study also revealed how urination habits changed with age.

It revealed that especially older German men – 55 and older – often sit down to urinate, at 49 percent, compared to 28 percent of those aged 18 to 34.

In Britain, by contrast, the age difference is reversed, YouGov said, with older British men “notably more likely than their younger counterparts to say they never sit down to pee, at 40 percent versus 23 percent.” The same goes for Australia, the study said, 38 percent versus 24 percent — and the US, 35 percent versus 21 percent.

YouGov added that younger Danish men are also noticeably more likely to say they sit down to urinate “most times” compared to their older ones — 37 percent versus 21 percent.
