‘They shot him. They shot my son,” she was heard screaming, 9 News reported.

The incident occurred after police arrived at the house on Days Road, where they found a 53-year-old man with a cut to his hand and an injury to his left shoulder.

The 29-year-old man was armed with a knife when police arrived.

Police will claim that he walked towards officers holding the knife before an officer fired three shots.

First aid and CPR were immediately administered, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 53-year-old man was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

It is clear that the two men were acquaintances.

The address has been declared a crime scene and the police investigation continues.

This case is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the state coroner.

The findings will be reviewed by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

“That’s just a horrific incident,” Detective Andrew Massingham said Sunday afternoon.

‘[It’s unfortunate] our officers are faced with a situation where they deem it appropriate to use a level of force that would result in GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm) or death.

“That’s not a decision anyone can make lightly.”

Det Supt Massingham said no tasers were deployed during the incident.

He said one of the men, 53, who was found at the scene had suffered an ‘injury to his left shoulder’.

“The person we believe is responsible for inflicting that injury was still on the property, he was approached by police downstairs at the rear of the property,” he said.

“At the time, two police officers were present, but four additional officers were called in.

“A short time later, that man fell to police with what we believe is a knife, resulting in an officer, a uniformed officer, from a local bureau, firing three shots at that person.

“CPR was immediately initiated, but that man, who is a First Nations man, died tragically at the scene minutes later.”

He also revealed that there were children at the scene at the time of the incident and that the officers’ first priority was to “help them and take them to a safe place.”

Queensland Police and Ambulance Service had visited the address a day earlier in connection with the deceased’s mental health issues.

“This is indeed a tragedy,” said Det Supt Massingham.
