‘Deeply Disturbing’ New Broadway Play Leaves Audiences Terrified
Broadway fans label a new “dark and twisted” play as “deeply disturbing,” with one audience member saying they “jerked out of my seat.”
The terrifying show, which is currently in previews, stars Roseanne alum Laura Metcalf and She Hulk actress Tatiana Maslany.
It tells the story of a couple who are forced to stay in a remote cabin after their car crashes in the mountains.
At first, the cabin’s residents welcome their new guests, but their stay extends over several days as they get trapped by a snow storm.
The new Broadway play, Gray House, is causing quite a stir even before it opens, with fans describing it as “deeply disturbing” and “dark and twisted”
It tells the story of a couple who are forced to stay in a remote cabin after their car crashes in the mountains before things begin to take a disturbing turn.
Soon the pair notice something is wrong with their hosts and their temporary home.
In the weeks leading up to opening night on May 30, Broadway aficionados have flocked to the Lyceum Theater in New York City for previews of the play.
And it’s creeped the people out and terrified them.
Gray House is the first horror game I’ve ever seen. It’s creepy and very funny. A must for all horror dogs! Laurie Metcalf, Tatiana Maslany and Paul Sparks are great at it,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“As a huge horror fan, this show was one of my most anticipated and… WOW. GRAY HOUSE made me shudder in my seat, but mostly thinking about the themes and the show as a whole (not a bad thing!). Absolutely unique and thought-provoking… and a little terrifying!” added another.
My favorite part of seeing Gray House on Broadway yesterday was hearing the man sitting next to me mumble, “What the F***?!” during a crucial scene,” commented a third.
“The first time I was scared out of my seat at a Broadway play lol Gray House was pretty wild. Tatiana Maslany, Laurie Metcalf, Sophia Anna Caruso have terrified it…some literally,” one fan wrote.
Someone else on Twitter described it as “very creepy.”

On the New York theater review site Show Score, a theatergoer described it as a “mindf***.”
Another wrote: ‘Check it out if you like complicated storylines, freaky and deeply disturbing visuals/stories, jump scares, great acting. Sitting closer to the stage + intense.’
A third reviewer said the show would suit a “dark and twisted person who likes dark and twisted shows.”
“Lots of layers. Great actors. What does it mean? Who is real? What?!’ they said.
During the play’s 2019 run, the Chicago grandstand described it as “legitimately terrifying.”
It’s because Netflix viewers couldn’t finish Soft & Quiet due to its terrifying plot.
Written and directed by Beth de Araújo, it has been described as “intense” and “daring.”

The twisting plot, starring Stefanie Estes, Olivia Luccardi, Eleaonore Pienta and Dana Millican, follows an elementary school teacher who organized a mixer for white supremacist women.
However, a terrifying chain of events is unleashed when a mysterious person from her past re-enters her life.
One posted, “It’s literally the only movie I’ve rented and then refused to finish. It’s also the only movie I want to send to hell in the express lane.”
“We turned on Soft & Quiet and I didn’t think this movie would be like this… I’m very upset.”
