A woman in her sixth month of pregnancy was found dead along with her two-year-old son in an Idaho town after a suspected murder-suicide.
Elizabeth Lawley, 33, was found dead with her son at her father’s home on Wednesday evening — both deaths were caused by gunshot wounds, sheriffs said.
Officers received reports around 8:30 p.m. that their bodies had been found in a room of the home in Wallace, Idaho.
Lawley’s father had returned to his home at about 6 p.m., but initially thought his daughter and the child were napping in another room. reported the Coeur d’Alene Press. Hours later, when he went to check the other room, he discovered the bodies of Lawley and the boy.

Sheriff Holly Lindsey of Shoshone County Sheriff’s Department said in her 19 years of service she had never seen the office so gloomy
Wallace is a small town east of Coeur d’Alene along Interstate 90 in northern Idaho in Shoshone County. The sheriff’s office shared the news of the incident the following day via a press release on his Facebook page.
Sheriff Holly Lindsey said that in her 19 years of service in Shoshone County, she had never seen the sheriff’s office so bleak and devastated.
“Today was an extremely difficult day for the family, for our office and for this community. And I can only imagine what the family is going through,” the Facebook post read.
“Frankly, in my 19 years of service to Shoshone County, I’ve never seen the SCSO so bleak, so devastated; we shared many hugs and we shared many tears. Today was an extremely difficult day for the family, for our office and for this community. And I can only imagine what the family is going through.”
“The preliminary investigation indicates that Lawley likely killed her son and then committed suicide,” she wrote.
The department said deputies were at the home at 152 King Street from 8:30 p.m. until the early hours after obtaining a search warrant.
Sheriff’s Office Captain Jeff Lee told the Coeur d’Alene Press that the scene and evidence strongly suggested it was a murder-suicide and that Lawley’s father was not being investigated as a suspect.
“Not only the community, but also the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office is extremely saddened and shocked by the incident,” Lee said.
“We are continuing the investigation and awaiting the full processing of all evidence, as well as the medical examiner’s report and all their findings.”
