Brandon Smith has admitted he’s going through the “low point of his career” amid his terrible start to his life as a rooster.

After six strong years with the Melbourne Storm, the Kiwi striker moved to New South Wales in a stacked Roosters squad but failed to live up to the hype with injuries and poor form hampering his progress.

He is now sidelined for eight weeks with a broken thumb, another blow to the Roosters after Victor Radley was handed a three-game suspension for headbutting Blake Lawrie.

And Smith was candid in his assessment of his first 12 weeks in Sydney.

“It doesn’t look good, I need surgery,” Smith said News Corp from the injury he sustained against the Dragons on Friday.

‘It’s about eight weeks, according to our physios. It’s a tough pill to swallow. I’m gutted.

“I see it as a huge opportunity for myself. I’m not where I want to be yet and I have six to eight weeks to focus on myself.

“I’ll go through a plan on how I can use this to really improve myself and hopefully the Roosters will be in the finals when I get back.”

Smith’s best position with the Roosters has been much discussed. He was signed as dummy half, but started from the substitution bench for his side’s defeat at the hands of the Dragons.

“This is definitely probably the lowest I’ve felt in my entire six years,” he added.

‘Not mentally. I’m still happy and everything. But just physically, I’ve been injured a lot and haven’t performed.

“We are paid to perform, that is our job.

“When I was in Melbourne we didn’t have so many penalties and so many fouls. Usually we were the front runners, but now we are behind and we have to learn to fight.’
