Escape to the Chateau’s Dick Strawbridge breaks his social media silence

Escape to the Chateau’s Dick and Angel Strawbridge have broken their social media silence amid an exposé about their behind-the-scenes behavior at work.

The couple were branded “prickly”, “volatile” and “a nightmare to work with” after Channel 4 announced it had cut ties with the couple.

The broadcaster has confirmed it will no longer be working with Dick, 63, and Angel, 45, on new productions ‘following a review’ of their behaviour.

While the pair have kept a steely silence so far, Dick opted to dodge the drama on Thursday and pose for a beaming photo while holding a copy of his son James’ new cookbook, Salt and the Art of Seasoning. on his own Instagram.

Elsewhere, on the pair’s joint Instagram, dubbed The Chateau, they also shared a video of their children playing in the grounds of their Chateau alongside a promo code for their store — far from being a reference to the scandal.

Insiders added that they couldn’t hide their “real characters” from crew members who spent weeks with them filming the popular show in northwestern France.

It has also been suggested that Channel 4’s culling of the hit show was ‘convenient’ as the series – which has been on screen for seven years and spawned numerous spin-offs – had run its course.

A source said, “Dick and Angel come across as the prettiest and sweetest couple on screen, literally like butter wouldn’t melt, but they’re not like that on screen.”

“It’s a full show, the production is in the castle with them for weeks, so they can’t hide their real characters — they can’t turn it on for two hours of recording and then not go back to their real persona.”

“They’re just prickly and volatile people and, as you can imagine, that’s a nightmare to work with.”

Channel 4 launched an independent investigation after production company Two Rivers Media raised concerns about the Strawbridges and announced it would no longer be working with them.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: ‘Following a review we have made the decision not to work with Dick and Angel on new productions in the future.’

The series made the couple household names as 2.5 million viewers regularly poured in to see the renovation of their 19th century Château de la Motte-Husson in Martigné-sur-Mayenne, France.

The series was previously created by production company Spark Media Partners, who oversaw the first four seasons from 2016 to 2018. But it also allegedly cut ties with the Strawbridges over a feud.

Sources claim that Channel 4 can no longer be associated with them in the current climate.
