A man on the run from Queensland when police accused him of shooting a man wildly with an automatic weapon has been arrested in Sydney after an alleged carjacking.
Mitchell James Wilson, 27, was arrested in Earlwood, southwest Sydney, after allegedly stealing a car at gunpoint in nearby Dulwich Hill.
Wilson is wanted after allegedly threatening several people with a semi-automatic firearm in three separate incidents in Brisbane on April 6.
During Thursday’s incident, police allege Wilson broke into a 38-year-old man’s car and threatened him with a firearm.
Wilson then fled, leading police on a short foot chase where he was caught and arrested.
He was taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for observation, where he remains under police guard.
He is expected to appear before the Newtown Local Court on Friday.
Queensland Police have indicated they will apply to have Wilson extradited to the state once legal matters in New South Wales are finalized.
“From what we understand, the NSW Police acted quickly in apprehending and apprehending this man…” said Queensland Police Detective Andrew Massingham.
“Once their legal proceedings are complete, Queensland Police will be equally quick to request the man’s extradition to Queensland, where he is wanted in early April in connection with numerous alleged gun and arson attacks in Brisbane.”

Wilson has been on the run from Queensland authorities since early April when he allegedly committed a series of crimes across Brisbane.
Police also noted that Wilson’s ankle monitoring bracelet had been removed and left in Bracken Bridge, also in northern Brisbane.
He wore the device as part of his bail conditions in connection with alleged drug trafficking offenses, police said.
Wilson allegedly crashed the car in Earlwood before fleeing through several properties and chasing police on foot before being caught and taken to hospital for observation
He has been on the run since early April after allegedly committing several firearms offenses and burning down a house in Brisbane on April 6.
Police also allege that at around 8:55pm that same night, Wilson ordered a woman to get into his gray Audi after driving to a business in Mount Gravatt, south of Brisbane.
He allegedly approached two women, both known to him, after they left the company and asked them to come with him.
Both women fled and hid from Wilson, who allegedly shot at the couple.
He then allegedly traveled to a house in Sunnybank, south of Brisbane, with a firearm and jerry can of fuel in search of one of the women.
Police allege he threatened a resident before setting the house on fire and fleeing at 9:15 p.m.
