Newcastle: CEO and club legend Nobby Solano host fan event in Atlanta ahead of US preseason tour

Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales and club legend Nobby Solano met fans at an Atlanta bar during a live screening of the team’s game against Leeds United on Saturday.

The purpose of his trip was an attempt to build anticipation for Newcastle’s preseason tour of the United States as part of the Premier League’s Summer Series.

Former beloved Atlanta United forward Miguel Almiron also returns to his former ground.

“So excited for the summer, we have the big game against Chelsea in pre-season. Mercedes-Benz Stadium is already sold out,” said Eales. They also get to see the returning hero Miguel Almiron.

“You know Miggy is a legend in Atlanta, so the fans are excited… It’s an opportunity to connect with our fans in America.”

Speaking at the event, Eales said, “It’s really special to have over 150 fans come out to support us, early this morning, in Atlanta. The passion we see every week in St. James’ Park and in Newcastle is reflected all over the world and it’s an incredible thing to see.

“Football in America has experienced rapid growth over the last decade and to see fans here from Newcastle and the US is great. We have adopted Geordies all over the world and it is our ambition to connect with as many supporter groups as possible.

“Being in Atlanta and seeing the fans ahead of the Premier League Summer Series will allow us to engage with our supporters for what is shaping up to be a great pre-season, both on and off the pitch.

“America is an exciting market for sport and we want to be a part of this, bringing Newcastle United to a global audience and making sure we include our supporters in this exciting time for the club.”

Solano also participated in coaching sessions for more than 30 young football players in the area.

Former Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron returns to the scene of his MLS Cup win

Newcastle signed Almiron from Atlanta for $25 million in January 2019 and the Paraguay international has been an impressive part of the squad this season under Eddie Howe as it battles for a Champions League place.

He is now ready to return to the scene of his fame as he joins the Magpies on their summer tour of the United States.

“I’m very excited to return, especially to Atlanta,” Almiron recently told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“What I had in Atlanta was very special, and it’s something I’ll never forget. So I’m very excited to go back.’

“It gave them such joy for us to be crowned champions, and that’s the best part of this job, of what I do,” he said of the impact of the team’s success on Atlanta’s supporters.

And for me it’s very special. You know, I lived in England for three years, but I still get messages from the fans in Atlanta, which is really nice.’

Almiron and Atlanta won the MLS Cup together in 2018.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe also recently said he believes the tour will be ‘a real opportunity’ for winger Anthony Gordon to progress with the team.

Gordon has struggled to impress since moving to Newcastle in January for $56.8m (£45m) from relegation contenders Everton.

“I think your first pre-season is a real opportunity to absolutely learn how we play,” he told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview.

“I think he has an idea now, but I think we can really calm that down during an intense pre-season.”
