Pat Carrigan has defended Kevin Walters for delivering an almighty spray on his Broncos players last week, admitting the fearsome tirade was entirely deserved.
Following a 53-6 capitulation against the Eels at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, Walters let rip on his players, blasting their attitude and their lack of effort in defence.
According to reports, the spray left several Broncos players ‘upset’ with Walters for questioning their commitment, but Carrigan had no issues with the chiding.
Patrick Carrigan believes the Broncos deserved to cop a spray from Kevin Walters last week
‘It was fair and honest,’ the Broncos prop said on Monday.
‘It was warranted. Not only as players but as fans we are a little bit disappointed in the club’s performances over the last couple of weeks.
‘He [Walters] is a passionate guy. We all want to get there and we are following him every day.’
Broncos legends Gorden Tallis and Steve Renouf were both scathing of the players’ response in the aftermath of Walters’ spray.

Tallis urged the Broncos coach to turf out the players who complained about his tirade, suggesting their teammates would not be prepared to play with them.
‘Whoever those two are that whinged and they should just write a line through them,’ the former Broncos and Queensland great said on Fox League on Sunday.
‘If I found out and I was at that organisation, I don’t want to play with that guy.’
Renouf, meanwhile, described the Broncos players as ‘precious, soft, privileged k***s’ on Twitter.

The Broncos suffered a second successive hammering, leaving their finals hopes in jeopardy
Tallis and Renouf played a combined 343 games for the Broncos, winning a total of seven premierships between them and Carrigan accepted their criticism came with good intentions.
They [Tallis and Renouf] are greats of the club. It stings you when they say things like that, but I also know it comes from the right place,’ he added.
‘Stevie and Gordie have been good around the place and want nothing but for us to be a successful group.’
Brisbane’s hopes of making the finals hang by a thread after back-to-back shellackings against Melbourne and Parramatta in the past two games have left them ninth heading into the final round.

And they were thrashed 60-12 at home by Melbourne the previous week
The Broncos must beat St George on Saturday and hope the Raiders come unstuck against the bottom-of-the-ladder Wests Tigers.
After a dominant win against the Eels on July 21, the Broncos have won just one of their last five games with three of their four defeats coming at Suncorp Stadium.
Brisbane lost at home to the NRL’s cellar-dwellers Tigers and conceded a combined 113 points in their last two outings to the Storm and Parramatta.
The Broncos last made the finals back in 2019, when they finished eighth and were hammered 58-0 by Parramatta in the qualifying final.
