Orange High School, NSW asks kids to stay at home because of Covid outbreak

Two schools have sent some of their students home after falling under staff shortages due to Covid outbreaks – one school forced all students to wear face masks.
Liverpool Girls High School announced on Tuesday that Years 9, 10 and 11 students will be required to work from home with immediate effect, while all staff and students still at school will be required to wear masks.
It initially announced a five-day mask mandate before sending some students home as cases rose.
Meanwhile, Orange High School in the Central Coast has also announced homeschooling for Year 7 through Year 10 students this week.
The announcement affects one class per day – although Year 11 and Year 12 students are exempt from the directive.

A Liverpool High School spokesperson wrote on Facebook on Tuesday: ‘Due to rising COVID cases in the community, Years 7, 8 and 12 will be learning at the school and are expected to attend.
‘Years 9, 10 and 11 are learning from home and are expected to be online by 9.30am.
‘These measures apply from Wednesday 17 to Friday 19 May.’
A previous announcement from the school said: ‘Due to an increase in COVID cases in our community, mask wearing will be mandatory for all LGHS staff students and visitors for the next 5 days starting May 16.’
Liverpool Girls High School is a state school with nearly 900 pupils.
At Orange High School, Principal Ali McLennan wrote to parents, “Due to the impact of COVID-19, some of our students and teaching staff are unable to attend school.
“The positive cases of COVID-19 have mainly affected our employees.”
“Students who can’t learn at home will be supervised when they go to school,” Ms McLennan added.
Year 11 and Year 12 students will still attend school as usual, Ms McLennan’s note said.
Orange High School has over 1,000 students.

Year 9 – Wednesday 17 May (one day only)
Year 8 – Thursday 18 May (one day only)
