Awkward moment Brie Larson says she doesn’t know if she’ll watch Johnny Depp film opening Cannes

Brie Larson was left furious after she was asked an awkward question about Johnny Depp’s controversial comeback movie opening at the Cannes Film Festival this week.

The actress, 33, Cannes jury member, was visibly tense when asked if she would see Depp car, Jeanne du Barry after being one of the most outspoken advocates of the #MeToo movement.

Directed by and starring French actor-director Maïwenn, Jeanne du Barry stars as Louis XV alongside Depp. It is Depp’s first new film since his trial last year with Amber Heard, his ex-wife, and will premiere Tuesday night.

After both Depp and Heard accused each other of physical and verbal abuse, a civil jury awarded Depp $10 million in damages and $2 million to Heard.

Larson responded to a reporter’s question at a jury press conference, “Are you asking me? iI’m sorry I don’t understand the correlation or why me specifically.

Turning the question away when pressed further, she said, “You will see, I think, when I shall see. And I don’t know how I’ll feel if I do.’

In comments to the press Monday, Cannes director Thierry Fremaux defended the choice, saying Depp is extraordinary in the film and that he paid no attention to the process.

“To tell you the truth, in my life I have only one rule, it is the freedom of thought, the freedom of expression and the freedom to act within a legal framework,” Fremaux said.

“If Johnny Depp wasn’t allowed to star in a movie, or if the movie was banned, we wouldn’t be talking about this.”

Jeanne Du Barry will see the 59-year-old actor return to the big screen for the first time in three years – with French actress Maiwenn starring alongside Depp as Jeanne and directing the film.

In 2017, Larson failed to clap for Casey Affleck after handing him the Oscar for Actor in a Leading Role.

Affleck was previously sued by two women for sexual harassment allegedly committed during the filming of I’m Still Here – both lawsuits were settled in 2010.

She said at the time, “I think whatever I did onstage really spoke for itself.”

She added, “I’ve said all I have to say on that subject.”

It wasn’t the first time the actress seemed less than thrilled to be presenting a trophy to Affleck.

Many noticed her look of apparent dismay in January 2017 when she presented the actor with a Golden Globe for his performance.

Affleck didn’t win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January, and Larson was noticeably happier when he announced the name of Denzel Washington that night, taking home an actor for his work in “Fences.”
