Kanye West’s Bizarre Sock Shoes Confuse Fans As He Steps Out With ‘Wife’ Bianca Censori
Kanye West has sparked the latest in a long line of controversy — this time sending social media into a frenzy of bewilderment over his outlandish “sock shoes.”
The 45-year-old rapper and Yeezy designer faced a barrage of ridicule on Twitter and Instagram this weekend after stepping out in Los Angeles with his “wife” Bianca Censori, where he modeled the very bizarre footwear.
While Kanye is no stranger to pushing boundaries when it comes to his personal style, his latest accessory has quickly become one of his most divisive.
The “sock boots” in question have a padded boot-like structure that extends down the shins to the knee – many critics liken them to the protective padding worn by soccer players – but the portion covering the foot appears to be made of nothing more than a thin sock-like material.
‘[These] they’re not shoes, those are my football knee pads my mom sold in the last garage sale she had,” one person joked on social media, while another chimed in, “Just because you have money doesn’t mean you have taste .’
Kanye West was brutally criticized on social media after stepping out in a bizarre pair of ‘sock shoes’ on Saturday while enjoying a date night with his ‘wife’ Bianca Censori
The so-called ‘sock boots’ left social media users confused, with many commenting on the fact that they don’t seem to provide any form of protection for the soles of the feet
Instagram and Twitter users brutally roasted the 45-year-old’s footwear, with many joking that he’d get in trouble if he stepped on anything sharp or hard
Even professional wrestler Matt Cardona took aim at Kanye, joking that the rapper’s footwear looks almost identical to the protective padding he wears to keep himself safe in the ring.
“Kanye Is Wearing Kick Pads Now?!” he wrote while sharing an image of Kanye and Bianca on his social media accounts.
His post was soon flooded with more mockery from his followers, with one user writing, “Kanye 100% don’t know what they’re being used for.”
“Protect everything but the toes,” another person joked, drawing attention to the lack of padding around the feet of the shoes.
Another person compared the sock boots to the combat boots worn in the video game HALO, while another joked that the shoes looked like a collaboration between Kanye’s Yeezy brand, Star Wars character Darth Vader and the Mandalorian, and a diver.
But if Kanye knew his funky footwear would divide opinion in such a cheeky way, it certainly didn’t stop him from going full steam ahead with his sock boot enthusiasm — with the rapper even filing a trademark for ‘YZY SOCK’ . SHOES’ earlier this month, weeks before he was spotted wearing it in LA.
Kanye filed the trademark application on May 4 through his holding company, Mascotte Holdings, according to TMZ, describing the sock shoes in the paperwork as “leather-soled socks.”
The application also included various clothing, footwear, headgear, games, toys and sports equipment.
His filing came just days after Kanye held a private show for his Yeezy season 10 collection, titled “YZY FREE,” in LA.
The show featured bald models, wearing tight white shirts and black pants, and Frank Ocean’s music playing in the background, but the sock shoes were not featured in the show.
Some fans joked that Kanye would definitely be left in agony if he accidentally walked over some lego bricks while wearing his sock shoes.
Many pointed out similarities between Kanye’s shoes and those worn by divers, cartoon characters, and even animated video game characters
Adidas made the announcement that they would be selling the rest of the more than $1 billion worth of Yeezy shoes it still has in stock.
This setup would result in Kanye getting 15 percent of all sales.
Part of the proceeds from the profit goes to charities.
One fan was quick to defend Kanye by writing, “All laugh, but soon the shoes Kanye wears will be in fashion!”
On Monday, Kanye was photographed again when he and Bianca were spotted heading to a gym for a workout.
However, the pair decided to stop by a Chick-fil-A location for lunch before working up a sweat.
West referenced the fast food restaurant in his 2019 song Closed On Sunday, which was featured on his Christian-themed album Jesus Is King.
The song was mocked by critics and even some fans for its blunt mentions of Chick-fil-A.
Kanye was pictured sipping a soda from the restaurant while walking through a parking garage before meeting Bianca again.

Leggy look: Kanye ditched the football pad-esque leg coverings and just wore black leggings. Bianca wore a similar white tank top without a bra and gray leggings
Unlike on Saturday when he was seen in his sock boots with his football cushion-like covers over his legs, this time he appeared to be wearing the minimal protective boots with simple black leggings.
He was previously mocked by fans for wearing leggings earlier in May, though it doesn’t seem to be an entirely new part of his fashion sense.
In 2014, the rapper was spotted with his then-wife Kim Kardashian, and both wore matching sets of black leggings.
Kanye appeared to be wearing the same trash-bag style coat, while Bianca wore a similar white tank top without a bra, along with similar gray leggings.
