Angela Kelly, the late Queen’s right-hand man, packs up her home in Windsor

The late Queen’s right-hand man has begun packing her home in Windsor for a new life up north.

Angela Kelly, 65, was overcome with emotion as she loaded a van with items including a mattress and some trees from her garden on Sunday.

Ms Kelly worked for Queen Elizabeth for over 25 years and the couple were so close that she would even wear the monarch’s new shoes, do her hair and massage her feet.

In return, the Queen created the title of ‘Personal Assistant, Advisor and Curator to Her Majesty’ for the former royal dresser and gave her unprecedented permission to write a series of books about their relationship.

But many in the royal household were suspicious – and possibly jealous – of Kelly’s hold on the Queen.

Last year, the Mail revealed that days after the late monarch’s death in September, the locks on her apartments had been changed so 65-year-old Kelly couldn’t gain entry – although she has kept her home on the Windsor estate at the Queen’s request .

She now reluctantly leaves her riverside home to move to the Peak District, where the King has given her a new home to fulfill his late mother’s promise.

It is believed that Charles bought the property on the understanding that she will be able to live there for the rest of her life, after which it will revert to the Crown.

It also ensures that Ms. Kelly will not be able to talk about her friendship with Queen Elizabeth, although it is believed that before her death she gave her ‘lieutenant’ permission for another book that she hoped would serve as ‘pension’ for her years of marriage. loyal service.

While it’s clear that Mrs. Kelly will now be closer to her family, it’s clear that leaving Windsor has been a huge blow.

Just a few weeks ago, she poignantly posted a photo of her garden, telling friends, “Ready to say goodbye. I am finally moving into my new house that I will finally be able to call My Home.’

In response to a friend, she posted: ‘I’m moving to the Peak District just beyond Sheffield so not too far from family.

“My work phone is disconnected, but hopefully you have this one. I look forward to my new adventures [with smiling emoji]’.

Her Instagram stories suggested she was defiant to the end. She posted, “I’m too old to worry about who likes me and who doesn’t!” I have more important things to do!’

And today, Miss Kelly posted a motivational quote on her public Instagram account that can be seen as a reflection of her current situation. The quote ended, “The truth is it hurts her more than she’ll ever admit to you.”

Sources stressed that cutting off a work number is “standard procedure” for anyone leaving court.

A source close to the palace said: “The story of the king being heartless is all very much misguided.

“His Majesty has never wanted to see anyone homeless, especially one who has been so loyal.”

This weekend, Ms. Kelly, the daughter of a Liverpool dockworker who often marveled at her changed circumstances after being headhunted by Elizabeth in 1993, was in tears as she began packing her things.

Dressed in a white sweater, slacks and boots, she could be seen from the road carrying several loads to a white van, helped by what appeared to be relatives.

Mrs. Kelly met the late Queen when she was working as a housekeeper for the British Ambassador to Germany.

She liked what she saw and enticed her to work for Buckingham Palace.

She quickly rose from a dresser to one of the most powerful people in the royal family.

But while she was adored by the boss, she ruffled the feathers among the staff and senior royals. Her quick temper even earned her the nickname AK-47.

However, she was recognized by the King earlier this year in a special ‘demise’ award to honor the death of Queen Elizabeth – she was made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, which could be presented to her personally by King Charles himself.

If the king chose to do this, it would be regarded by many as an olive branch.
