Nigerian actor Murphy Afolabi dies at age 49 as the Nollywood film industry pays tribute

Actor and filmmaker Murphy Afolabi has passed away at the age of 49.

The Nigerian actor, writer and filmmaker passed away in the early hours of Sunday at his home in Lagos Daily mail in Nigeria.

Director and producer Tunde Ola-Yusuf confirmed the news on Sunday afternoon with a post on his Facebook page.

Yusuf wrote in his post alongside a photo of Murphy Afolabi: ‘Rest IN PEACE…May God give the family and close associates the strength to bear the loss. Goodnight Muphy Afolabi.”

Loss: Actor and filmmaker Murphy Afolabi has passed away at the age of 49. The Nigerian actor, writer and filmmaker died at his home in Lagos in the early hours of Sunday, according to the Daily Post

Fellow filmmaker Fidelis Duker wrote, ‘What’s Really Happening? I’m just watching him in a movie now.’

On Instagram, actor Yomi Fabiyi described the late actor as “talented, creative, hardworking, so gentle, humble and supportive,” adding, “Rest on Warrior!”

The late actor was reportedly a father of three, two boys and a girl.

Afolabi celebrated his birthday just over a week ago on May 5 and wrote an Instagram post expressing his hopes for the future.

“Dear God, on this day of my birthday, I ask for your blessings and mercy,” the actor wrote on his birthday.

“May I have your strength and courage to continue to serve you faithfully. Almighty God, I come to you today and ask for your favor.”

“May You grant me wisdom and knowledge to do Your will and to live a righteous life. HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY FOR ME.”

Afolabi he appeared in more than 60 films, including popular films Ifa Olokun Omowunmi and Blackout. He first rose to fame after his role in the movie Omo Rapala.

He was also a screenwriter and filmmaker, and the CEO of Fatuns Films Production.
