Arsenal fan cancelled holiday back in January so he could watch them lift the Premier League title

“My wife is furious!” An Arsenal fan canceled a luxury family holiday to Mauritius in January so he could watch the Gunners clinch the Premier League title… and now Man City can be crowned champions this weekend!

  • Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge came crashing down after a 3-0 defeat to Brighton
  • The Gunners were eight points clear at one point for terrible form
  • An Arsenal fan revealed he canceled a holiday to watch them win the league

An Arsenal fan was redfaced after a tweet from January resurfaced when he revealed he had canceled his family holiday to watch The Gunners win the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta’s side spent most of the season in pole position to clinch the title, spending 245 days at the top of the table.

However, their form has slipped in recent weeks and their challenge imploded on Sunday as they were beaten 3-0 by Brighton thanks to goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan.

It leaves the Gunners four points behind Manchester City with a game more, meaning City could win the league next weekend.

Following the defeat, the aforementioned 31 January tweet resurfaced from the Arsenal supporter saying: ‘About a year ago my wife and I booked a family holiday to Mauritius and left on 26th May.

The tweet explained how he had received his wife's wrath for scrapping the trip, before the Gunners' title challenge imploded with poor form in recent weeks.

“I recently heard that our last home game is Wolves on May 28. I had to cancel our holiday. MY WIFE IS AGAIN. Too scared to go home. We better win the league. Pray for me.’

At the time of the tweet, the Gunners were five points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side, have played a game less and looked set to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

Despite extending their lead to eight points at the end of March, a dismal April followed that ultimately cost them.

Despite beating Leeds on 1 April, they played three successive games against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton before being thrashed 4–1 by City to give them the initiative in the title race.

In total, they have only taken nine points from their last seven games.

Meanwhile, Guardiola’s side have won 11 consecutive league matches, putting them on the brink of their fifth Premier League title in six years.

Instead of being in Mauritius, the unfortunate fan will now likely have to see a dead rubber against a mid-table Wolves side on May 28 and fans were quick to laugh at him.

One said, “Post the divorce papers bro,” while another joked, “That’s a huge compliment to cancel your vacation so you can watch Wolves.”

Another supporter added: “Imagine canceling your whole trip to see Man City lift the trophy.”
