I’m a mother – and I do NOT want to spend Mother’s Day with my child
A mother has caused quite a stir online after admitting that she would rather spend Mother’s Day alone than with her child.
Bailey McPherson, 24, from California, took to TikTok to share her very candid thoughts about the upcoming party.
The social media star, who has a daughter, said she wanted to use Mother’s Day to get her “to do some toes, have a bubbly drink and go shopping.”
Other social media users remained fiercely divided in the comments – but what do you think?

The social media star, who has a daughter, said she wanted to use Mother’s Day to get her ‘to do some toes, have a drink and go shopping’
McPherson first took to TikTok with a clip of her wondering who she should spend her time with on Mother’s Day.
She said, “Mother’s Day as an adult is weird because it’s like I’m expected to celebrate with my mother-in-law?
‘Should I celebrate with my own mother? Because my own mother certainly thinks so, but I am also a mother.
“So when do I, as a mother, who now lives near her mother, celebrate myself?”
The video, which has been viewed more than 1.5 million times to date, received hundreds of comments, including one that read, “Celebrate together? You can be celebrated at the same time as the others.’
It prompted Bailey to post a follow-up clip where she candidly shared her thoughts.
Directly to the camera, she said, “Celebrate Mother’s Day together? But the thing is, I don’t like spending my mommy breaks alone with other people.
“I absolutely don’t like sitting in other people’s houses and watching my child. I don’t want to be with my child on Mother’s Day. I don’t want to go to someone’s house and be a mother, you know.’

In one camp, there were those who seemed to wholeheartedly agree with Bailey’s sentiments
She continued, “I want to go out and get my toes done, have someone scrub my feet until I get so itchy I almost kick them in the face.”
“I want to drink something bubbly, even a Shirley Temple, a bottomless Shirley Temple.
“Some food, maybe some shopping. That’s my idea of Mother’s Day alone. Who wants to go, that… I think my mother can go for that, but that’s all I’ll settle for. I’m not going to mother on Mother’s Day. Bye.’
And the revelation that she would rather spend the day alone sparked a fierce debate in the comments.
In one camp, there were those who seemed to wholeheartedly agree with Bailey’s sentiments.
One wrote: ‘Sermon!! My Mother’s Day request was to leave ME alone.”
Bailey, who has a young daughter, concluded, “I’m not going to be mothering on Mother’s Day. Bye’
But on the other hand, there were those who had a distorted view of Bailey’s outlook
Another added: ‘This!! I feel like I’m being judged so harshly because I want it to be my day without them with me!’
And a third said, ‘I’m a mom every day. I don’t want to be a mom on Mother’s Day. That’s my day.’
But on the other hand, there were those who had a distorted view of Bailey’s outlook.
Someone commented, “I don’t understand why you don’t want to be with your kids on Mother’s Day. That’s the whole point!’
One said: ‘Uhm wait what?? So Mother’s Day isn’t the day to spend time with the people who made you a mother? I am confused?’
And another argued, “It’s not just about you. It’s about letting your children spoil you.’
