After the laughter that followed Anthony Davis’ head injury in Game 5 – and the subsequent report that he was guided away in a wheelchair – Draymond Green has spoken out in defense of the Lakers star.
Green, who currently faces Davis in the Western Conference semifinals as the Warriors and Lakers face off, dismissed the idea that Kevon Looney’s bump to Davis’s head was as harmless as it appeared.
“Don’t play with those head wounds, man. They’re serious,” Green said in his latest episode of his eponymous podcast.
“I saw a lot of people laughing and talking… but it’s a blow to the head and a little blow to the head can change everything in your life, so I don’t really get the joke.
“I don’t understand it at all.”

Green seemed to be referring to former NBA stars and current TNT analysts Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, who laughed hysterically after the Lakers’ Game 5 loss when Davis’s condition was brought up by host Ernie Johnson.
Neither would reveal what they were laughing about, but their co-host Kenny Smith told Johnson, “You know what they’re laughing about” as they burst into hysterics.
Stephen A. Smith also admitted he was “wrong” for making light of the situation, in which Davis left the game in the fourth quarter and was then screened for a concussion, according to TNT’s Chris Haynes.
‘Concussion? I thought the NFL season was over?,” Smith initially said on First Take.
“Now I understand that concussions can happen in other sports…but damn, I didn’t see anything yesterday that made me say concussion,” the ESPN personality said on First Take Thursday.
“We just gotta stop it man, we gotta stop it. It’s the man of the playoffs. I mean, did he run down the middle and get hit by Ronnie Lott or something? Did I miss something?’

While Davis is expected to play in Game 6 on Friday — he’s listed as likely with a lingering foot injury, not a head injury — Harvard-educated neuroscientist and former WWE wrestler Chris Nowinski urged the team to exercise caution.
“We saw what happened to Tua [Tagovailoa]we don’t need another example of a team trying to be cute about what a #concussion is,” he tweeted.
“You can hurt AD. Explain the wheelchair to us without saying it had upset his balance.’
Nowinski later claimed that despite reports to the contrary, Davis had indeed suffered a concussion.
The Lakers will host the Warriors in Game 6 on Friday at 10 p.m. ET.
