A New Hampshire woman claims she was bitten by an elephant during her dream vacation in Bali and left with a $10,000 medical bill.

Beth Bogar was checking off her bucket list of taking pictures with elephants at the Mason Elephant Park & Lodge resort when she got too close for comfort.

Photos of Beth showed her in a blue bikini riding atop the wild animal shortly before the horrific accident happened alongside the 24-year-old elephant trainer, who showed her how to pose for photos.

Uncertain about “how close was too close,” Beth then found her arm “sucked” into the animal’s mouth.

“I couldn’t get my arm out. I could just hear creaks and I just started to panic,” Beth recalled WMUR TV.

Beth was rushed to the hospital and left with a $10,000 bill that the resort promised to help pay.

Beth, who was vacationing with her husband Les, was shocked to find their dream vacation came to a traumatic halt.

Thinking back to when the trainer told Beth to put her arm near the elephant’s trunk, she trusted that he knew what he was doing.

“When I was with my trainer, we talked while I was riding, and he said he had been with the elephant for 24 years.

“He knew this elephant. I just feel like he led me and let my arm get too close to his mouth and I didn’t know how close was too close.”

Beth did not notice the severity of her injury until hours after the accident. She claimed she was taken to the resort office where she was given ice to ease the pain.

But when her arm began to swell, she rushed to a hospital about an hour away and had to have emergency surgery, the news outlet said.

An x-ray of Beth’s arm showed where she had placed plates and screws to put her broken bones back together.

“It’s going to be a long road,” she said.

Beth was left with a huge bill and only received $4,800 from the resort to cover expenses, she claimed.

Documents viewed by the news outlet showed that the resort agreed to pay half of the bill.

‘[They] assured us all the time that don’t worry we have insurance. We can handle this situation. We’ll take care of you,’ she said.

While Beth doesn’t blame the elephant for the incident, she did warn travelers to think twice as they work on their itinerary.

“In a split second, your whole journey can really change, and not just your journey, but your whole life,” she said.
