Upskirt teacher Erin Wong of Cammeraygal High School appears at Hornsby Local Court

Teacher who used hidden camera to film schoolgirls’ skirts gets sentencing for crime postponed because he may have autism

  • The case has now been postponed to July

A teacher caught filming schoolgirls’ skirts has delayed sentencing as a doctor considers whether he has a disorder that could affect jail time.

Eric Wong has pleaded guilty to twice filming someone’s genitals without consent.

A 16-year-old student who was asked to stay behind after class crashed into a white board at Cammeraygal High School on Sydney’s lower north shore revealed a hidden phone strategically placed for filming.

Police found hundreds of photos and videos of uniformed students, including those taken on skirts and down shirts as they searched his home.

Wong was due to be sentenced in Hornsby local court on Wednesday, but his lawyer delayed to prepare a report.

“The report … raises the possibility of an autistic spectrum disorder which we would argue would be highly relevant to the court’s approach to sentencing,” the attorney said.

Police prosecutors opposed the postponement “primarily on the basis of the continued unrest these cases are causing among the cohort and community of the relevant high school.”

Magistrate Alexander Mijovich said he understood the opposition, but the defense had the right to bring material to court and had not previously caused delays.

“It’s not an issue I foresaw that I would be delayed, but given the material before me, it’s appropriate,” he said.

“There will be no further suspensions, if material is not ready, it is not ready.”

Wong will return to court on July 19.
