Angelina Jolie, 47, is writing tributes for what would have been her late mother’s 73rd birthday

Angelina Jolie shared a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram.

On Monday morning, Oscar-winning actress Girl, Interrupted posted an old photo with her mother Marcheline Bertrand.

Jolie had blonder hair while wearing a white sundress and beige straw hat as she posed with her mother, who passed away in 2007 in the early 1980s.

The resemblance of the 47-year-old Maleficent actress to her mother – who was also an actress – is undeniable.

In her caption, the mother of six — who left Washington DC last week — wrote a sweet message. “Tomorrow would have been my mom’s 73rd birthday,” Brad Pitt’s ex-wife began.

Jolie then explained that Marcheline passed away 15 years ago.

It was “after a long battle with breast and ovarian cancer,” the humanitarian worker noted.

“In June, I’m a month away from being diagnosed,” she said.

“I’ve had preventative surgeries to try and reduce the odds, but I’m continuing with checkups,” the Those Who Wish Me Dead star wrote.

Jolie underwent a double mastectomy in 2013 to avoid developing breast cancer.

It was what’s called a prophylactic double mastectomy. That means she had both breasts removed, even though she had not been diagnosed with breast cancer. She said she did this because she carries a gene called BRCA1, which significantly increases the chance of developing breast or ovarian cancer.

Jolie then opened up about her mother’s personality.

“My mother loved Hendrix. And would always sign her letters Kiss the Sky,” the Salt star shared.

After her death it took on a new meaning. I send my love to those who have also lost loved ones and strength to those who are currently fighting for their lives and the lives of those they love.

She then said there was more information in her biography, adding “#WOCD2023 #worldovariancancerday.”

Beverly Hills, 90210 actress Shannen Doherty, who has cancer, liked the post.

Jolie’s father is actor Jon Voight with whom she performed in Tomb Raider. The two have had a rocky relationship, but don’t seem to be estranged from each other.

This comes after Jolie and her son Maddox were among the high-profile names to attend the White House state dinner in the nation’s capital at the end of April.

This year, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife Kim Keon-hee in honor of the 70th anniversary of the US-ROK alliance.

Dressed to the nines for the lavish affair, Angelina and her oldest child, 21, had the pleasure of watching President Yoon belt out Don McLean’s 1971 hit American Pie.

Maddox – adopted by the actress from Cambodia in 2002 – knows South Korea well after studying biochemistry at Yonsei University in Seoul.

Angelina flew to South Korea in August 2019 to send her son to college.

At the end of 2018, they visited the school and other university campuses in South Korea for the first time.

Although he was “admitted to other universities,” Maddox ultimately decided that Yonsei was right for him, as reported by PEOPLE at the time.

Along with biochemistry courses, the outlet claimed Maddox was “studying the Korean language.”

But Maddox’s studies abroad were interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced him to trade in-person classes for online school.

As a result, he returned to his childhood home in Los Angeles in March 2020, according to Angelina, who in an interview with Additional that year.

Since his classes stayed on Korean time, the Changeling star revealed that Maddox had no choice but to become a night owl.

“He had to stay away from Korea. He goes online so I think he starts at 6pm at night,” she told the outlet.

Maddox finally returned to South Korea in March 2021 after a year of remote learning.

The sun reported in 2021 that classes – specifically “labs, studio and field study courses” – resumed in April.

Angelina previously gushed about her son’s ambitious academic pursuits PEOPLE in 2019, while telling the outlet that she is “nothing but proud” of him.

She added, “I’m looking forward to everything he’s going to do.” It is unclear whether Maddox has officially completed his education at Yonsei.
