The plastic topper, on top of bottles of Sierra Tequila, is a nod to the drink’s Mexican roots.

And at first it may seem like a simple marketing ploy that is later tossed in the trash after the bottle of the cactus-derived drink runs out.

But it turns out there’s more to the iconic little plastic headgear than meets the eye – with Britons amazed by the sombrero’s ‘mind-blowing’ hidden useful uses.

Some people were so stunned that they even called the revelations a “game-changer.”

Amazingly, the little hat can be used as a lime squeezer.

And it doubles as a piece to measure out the right amount of tequila for a shot.

But most impressive of all its purposes is that the brim of the hat can also be neatly used to salt glass for that classic tequila shot experience.

Twitter user @J4CKMULL shared his discovery with his 500,000 followers.

He posted a picture of the sombrero salting his shot glass, saying, “I was years old today when I realized the sombrero was on top of the bottle of tequila so you could salt your glass.”

His post garnered nearly 2,000 likes and hundreds of retweets and replies from dozens of baffled tequila aficionados.

Jack later added, “Don’t even lie, you know you all thought it was just a cute little sombrero for your bottle.”

“Game changer blew my mind.”

And Jack wasn’t the only one who was amazed by the many uses of the little sombrero.

Someone else said “EXCUSE ME!? What kind of state secret is this?!’

Another noted: “You changed everything,” while a third added: “WHATTTTT NO THIS CHANGES THE WHOLE GAME.’
