Jamie Carragher taunts Gary Neville for blaming Man United’s West Ham defeat on the GLAZERS

Jamie Carragher taunts Gary Neville for blaming the GLAZERS for Man United’s defeat to West Ham.

  • Manchester United lost 1-0 to West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday evening
  • Gary Neville went on a rampage on Twitter after the game, blaming the Glazers for the loss
  • Jamie Carragher argued that the owners ‘didn’t play Wout Weghorst like a No. 10’

Jamie Carragher has taken a closer look at fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville for blaming the club’s owners for Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to West Ham.

Erik ten Hag’s side fell behind in the first half after a mistake by David de Gea enabled Said Benrahma to score from 20 yards out.

United created a number of chances as the game progressed, but could not find their way back into the game after a series of tame finishes.

Gary Neville was furious at his former side’s ‘poor’ performance but blamed the Glazers for failing to sell the club, tweeting: ‘The real shame is the Glazers. Are they waiting for the last game at Old Trafford to be over? It would be typical of them. Weak and evading responsibility and responsibility to the end!

“Staffs on and off the field are in a precarious position waiting for new owners let alone recruitment and what budget they will get! This should have happened. Classless to the end.’

The American owners first announced in November last year that they wanted to sell the club and made their third round of bidding last week.

Ineos billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe is believed to be leading the bidding war along with Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Carragher took the opportunity to point out that the Glazers had not made all the decisions that affected United’s performance at the London Stadium.

“Yes, the Glazers decided to play [Wout] Weghorst like a 10,” he tweeted sarcastically, “spend £90m on Antony and £70m on Casemiro (31) on a five year contract!”

Weghorst, who remains goalless after 14 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, was particularly criticized against West Ham for playing number 10, an unusual position for a six-foot-tall striker.

United remain in the Champions League place after Sunday’s defeat, but are now just one point ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool with a game left to play.

Jurgen Klopp’s side finish the season on a hot streak after winning their last six games and face a relatively easy run with games against Leicester, Aston Villa and Southampton.

United’s end of the season looks easy on paper too, as they take on Wolves, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham, but they have now lost back-to-back games 1-0, winning just once in their last four.
