Sixers’ Joel Embiid cries tears of joy as his adorable son Arthur runs down the field during his MVP speech in a heartwarming scene ahead of the Eastern Conference vs. Boston
The NBA’s newly minted MVP Joel Embiid cried tears of joy as his son ran onto the field during the NBA’s highest individual honors ceremony.
Embiid named his son and gestured to him before his mother let Arthur run over to his six-foot-tall father.
Arthur Elijah De Paula Embiid affectionately ran onto the floor before being picked up by the six-time All-Star after he had already begun to cry.
The lovable pair were greeted with loud cheers and the noise only increased as fans at the Wells Fargo Center got to watch the Embiids up close. Chants of MVP also swept the arena in South Philadelphia.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver presented the Cameroonian superstar with his first MVP trophy after beating runner-up Nikola Jokic for the award.

“I just want to thank God, first of all because I wouldn’t be here without him. Obviously my teammates have been a big part of that.
Embiid first became emotional when he began to thank his parents for participating in his journey.
The 29-year-old shared how his family “stuck together” after the tragic death of Embiid’s younger brother, also named Arthur, in a crash car in 2014 in their native Cameroon.
Embiid’s son, named after his late brother, wore a shirt that read “My dad is the MVP.”
Although, judging by his father’s speech, he thinks very differently on the subject.
“Honestly, he’s the main reason I’m really here. Becoming a father changed my whole life and I just wanted to set a good example for him.”
Finally, Embiid thanked the fans who responded in unison ahead of a crucial Game 3 Eastern Conference Semifinals game against the C’s.
