Why Socceroos wunderkind Nestory Irankunda may turn down the chance to play for Bayern Munich
Why Socceroo’s wunderkind labeled as a ‘once in a lifetime talent’ may LEAST the chance to play for German powerhouse Bayern Munich
- The teenager from Adelaide United is in high demand
- Bayern Munich is a club that is interested
- Club and player to carefully consider the next step
German giants Bayern Munich are among the global powerhouses looking to sign Adelaide United whiz kid Nestory Irankunda, his coach Carl Veart says.
But Veart says reports that the 17-year-old A-League star had reached an agreement with Bayern were false.
“No deal has been made at this stage,” Veart said.
“The last conversation I had is that quite a few clubs are still throwing their hats in the ring.
“So I don’t think it’s going to be an easy decision.”
Irankunda is only 17 but has already built a reputation as a generational talent with clubs around the world asking for his availability
German Bundesliga giant Bayern Munich is one of the clubs Irankunda is polling, but an official deal has not yet been finalized
Adelaide United coach Carl Veart wants to ensure his star player makes a move that is best for his career when his time in the A-League is over
FIFA rules prevent Irannunda from moving to Europe before his 18th birthday in February next year – a month after the transfer window closes.
Veart chose his words carefully about United’s sale of the explosive winger, who joined the Socceroos squad as a train-on player last March.
“There’s a good chance we will, but at least we have another season with him,” Veart said.
“The club will take their time before making a decision.
“And I suppose Nestor also needs to take time with his group to make sure that the next step in his career is a good one and that he can continue to develop.”
Veart labeled Irannunda a once-in-a-lifetime talent.
“In all my time in football in Australia I have never seen a player have such an impact on supporters,” he said.
“Every time you see him grab the ball, everyone in the whole stadium goes up.
“He’s a very special player. And it is important that we make sure we do everything that is right for him and for Australia and (the) future in world football.”
Irankunda has become a fan favorite with the Reds and has a great future ahead of him with some of the world’s biggest clubs looking to sign him
Irankunda was invited to join the Socceroos train-on squad and will be a key player for Australia in major tournaments in the future
Irankunda made another standout from the bench in Adelaide’s 2-0 final win against Wellington Phoenix on Friday night.
“I take my hat off to him,” Veart said.
“He’s been really good because he’s 17 and under a lot of pressure – not just talking about him about where he’s going, but putting pressure on him to deliver every time he plays for us.
“The expectation from the fans is heavy, especially for a guy like Nestor.
“So I think he handled himself really well and we keep hoping he stays with us as long as possible because he’s exciting.”
