The real reason Broncos star Reece Walsh lost his lunch before the club’s Magic Round clash against the Sea Eagles — and it wasn’t because of nerves
- Reece Walsh was ‘unwell’ before the Sea Eagles clash
- Young Gun later revealed it was due to ‘sticky spray’
- The 20-year-old recovered and was a standout for the Broncos
- Closer to a State of Origin debut for Queensland
Brisbane Broncos fullback Reece Walsh has revealed what made him unwell ahead of Friday’s showdown with the Sea Eagles – and it wasn’t down to nerves.
Cameras caught the 20-year-old throwing up in a bin shortly before kick-off at Suncorp Stadium – and after the game, the State of Queensland hopefully confirmed why he lost his lunch.
“It’s the sticky spray, it stinks,” he told Fox League reporter Jake Duke. ‘
I try to spray it on and not smell it, but it got me. “That sticky syringe size, it’s terrible.”
Once it was showtime, Walsh was at his staggering best in Brisbane’s 32-6 win.
He was a standout, finishing with two try assists, a line break, another line break assist and five runs for 143 yards.

Walsh was electric at times for the Broncos, and with Queensland Origin coach Billy Slater watching in the stands, the 20-year-old didn’t hurt his selection chances.
With Maroons coach Billy Slater watching in the stands, Walsh was also impressive on defense, scattering a number of air strikes from the boot of male skipper Daly Cherry-Evans.
Kalyn Ponga is the incumbent in the No. 1 jersey, and while Queensland are known for their loyalty, there’s not much Walsh can do to keep the No.
The mood, on the other hand, was not good in the Sea Eagles locker room.
Fullback Tom Trbojevic struggled on his return from injury – and has addressed speculation he is not fit.
“I felt really good there,” he said. “Obviously I’m not playing the football I want to play at the moment, but there are no injuries stopping me.
“I just need to find a shape.”
Sea Eagles premiership winner Paul Vautin didn’t mince words in his commentary for Channel 9, declaring ‘they couldn’t play any worse if they tried’.
The Broncos remain the benchmark in the NRL, while the Sea Eagles could fall out of the top eight after Magic Round completes.
