The meal David Moyes BANNED from Manchester United’s canteen, upsetting first-team stars
REVEALED: The meal David Moyes BANNED from the Manchester United canteen that upset the first-team stars during his ill-fated reign (and it was one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s favourites!)
- David Moyes endured a fateful 10-month spell as Manchester United manager
- He struggled to get results and gain support from much of the first team
- A certain decision to get a certain meal from the cafeteria upset them
Following in Sir Alex Ferguson’s footsteps as Manchester United would always be difficult for any manager.
With 38 honors in 27 hugely successful years, the Scot will forever be etched in history as one of the most pioneering coaches.
That job of replacing him fell to David Moyes – who was recommended by Ferguson – after impressing for 11 years at Everton as the Toffees pushed themselves into the upper echelons of the Premier League.
However, things didn’t work out when Moyes was sacked after just 10 months at Old Trafford, having lost 15 of his 51 games with the club.
He struggled to win over the players – many of whom were part of a team that had won a dynasty of trophies over the past decade – and one decision in particular affected his supporters.

Moyes made an unpopular decision to remove a particular meal from the menu in their cafeteria
Moyes was responsible for the suspension of a particular meal in the team’s canteen at their training ground in Carrington while he was at the club – and it was even one of Ferguson’s favourites.
One of Moyes’ first acts when he arrived at Old Trafford in July 2013 was to ban his team from eating fish fingers, chips and mushy peas.
Moyes felt that such a simple kitchen was not befitting a club of United’s stature.
This went down like a train among players who felt that fish fingers, chips and mushy peas were among their favorite meals in the canteen.
When Ferguson was still managing, he would often turn down the more sophisticated dishes on offer and instead make a fish finger and mushy peas sandwich.
Once Moyes was fired in April 2014 and replaced on a caretaker basis by Ryan Giggs until the end of the season, fish fingers, chips and mushy peas were back on the menu.
If only all United’s problems could be solved so easily.
